Requirements To Become A Travel Agent: 10 Courses Our Agency Offers

If you are new to the travel industry, like I was, you want to know how you can learn more about the travel industry.  Getting travel training is a must if you want to build a successful travel business from home.  The host agency, such as the one I am with, offers in-depth travel agent training to their independent travel business owners.  But it doesn’t stop there, each travel vendor and travel organizations offer training as well, so the opportunities to learn are endless!

Whether you decide to specialize in a particular niche, getting training in other areas of travel is a must!  Doing so will help you learn about the industry and grow your business.  Even if you are an experienced agent, you will find that things change and it is always good to stay on-top of what is current.

Our host agency offers coursed designed by Marc Mancini Seminars and Consulting. Marc Mancini is one of the travel industry’s most highly respected and best-known speakers, educators and consultants. It’s estimated that nearly 300,000 travel professionals worldwide have benefited from training programs that he has designed or delivered. The more you know about travel and how to sell it, the more profits you can expect to generate!

Here are 10 courses to become a travel agent with our Agency. These courses will broaden your awareness of what the travel industry has to offer.  Also completion of these courses will increase your earning potential.

1.       Overview of the Travel Industry

Just as the title states, you will get an overview on what to expect starting out in the travel industry

2.       Lodging

This course covers many of the finer points of lodging sales, business basics and insider secrets and will help you to understand how lodging fits into your travel business.

3.       Tours and Groups

Tour packages are one of the most lucrative products to sell in the travel industry. It’s estimated that 85% of all tours are sold through travel agents. In this valuable course, you will learn the business basics, lingo, vendor products and diversification of the tour industry. By providing your clients with expert advice when they’re considering a tour, you can generate increased profits.

4.       Cruising

Selling cruises is at the core my business. About 85% of cruises are sold through travel agents. Customers want the expertise of a travel agent and are reluctant to buy cruises on their own. With the proper skills, and a little more knowledge you can be a cruise expert. In this course you will explore the different types of cruises, cruise lines and even learn some insider secrets.

5.       Air Travel

Airline flights are one of the most commonly sold products in the Travel Industry. Although commissions from selling air tickets have largely disappeared, there’s still money to be made selling air travel.

6.       Rail, Car Rentals and the Rest

When most people think of the travel industry, they picture air transportation, cruises, tours and hotel accommodations. But there are other segments of the industry that can be very important.

These segments have a large impact on the travel business and can help generate increased profits for you. This course takes a look at four of these industry sectors: car rentals, rail transportation, destination marketing organizations, and meeting planners. This course will prepare you to add value to your website with these other segments of the travel industry – to fill in the gaps in your overall understanding of our business and enable you to give the right advice to your clients.

7.       Travel Sales, Service and Marketing

In this course we’ll be looking at how you can be a great salesperson. But just being a great salesperson isn’t enough. Applying good customer service and marketing skills can make you an even better RTA and lead to even more profits. Although sales and service are interwoven, they do have some individual facets. During this course we’ll take a look at the similarities and the differences and why it’s important to know them.

8.       Destinations: North and South America

To be a successful seller of travel, you must have a solid knowledge of the places travelers favor. After all, if you don’t know where something is in the world, how can you give the expert advice that your customers expect?

Travel geography is different from the basic geography you might have learned in school. In the travel industry, which country exports the most bauxite ore is unimportant, but which one has the best climate, tourist attractions, beaches, museums, etc. is very important.

We can’t begin to cover all of the possible vacation destinations in the world, but in this course and the next two courses to follow we will teach you about as many popular vacations spots as we can.

9.       Destinations: Europe

To be a successful seller of travel, you must have a solid knowledge of the places in Europe that travelers favor. After all, if you do not know at least something about a country or a place, how can you give the expert advice that your customers expect? Knowing which of the European cities has the best tourist attractions, beaches, museums, etc., is very important to your success as a home-based travel agent.

In our business model, your customers go directly to your web site to research, book, and buy European travel. But what if those customers have a question about a destination that cannot be readily answered on the web site? They may look to you for guidance and advice. You really need to know your European travel-related geography to provide your customers with the best service possible.

In this course, we can’t begin to cover all of the possible vacation destinations in Europe, but we’ll list as many of the popular sites as we can.

10.   Destinations: Africa, Asia and the South Pacific

Africa, Asia, and the South Pacific – these regions of the world consist of dozens of countries and cultures – some ancient, some relatively new. Do travelers have a clear notion of these far-flung places? Not really. That’s where you come in.

These regions are so expansive that we can’t begin to cover all of the possible vacation destinations in these parts of the world, so we’ve selected those that are the most significant to travel.

When you take these courses with our agency your knowledge will be expanded and you will have a better understanding of all the possibilities that are open to you.  Not only will you increase your knowledge base, but you will increase your commissions upon completion of all ten modules!
