Paul Osborn Kahlbaum’s (1926-2005) German grandfather, CarlLudwig Kahlbaum, first visited Kaua‘i aboard a whaler in 1870,decided to stay, married a Hawaiian woman and eventually becamehead overseer at Koloa Plantation from 1887 to 1900.
