Whether working on a Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D, students can take advantage of expanded educational opportunities by enrolling in a degree program abroad.  There are many options, including transferring credits already earned at your home university or working towards your full degree abroad.

Pursuing a degree program abroad carries benefits that extend beyond the academic.  Students find the experience of studying in an international setting lends weight to their credentials making them more marketable when it comes time to search for employment.

In addition to career benefits, enrollment in a degree program abroad provides personal benefits not possible with domestically-based degree programs.  In addition to classroom study, students are exposed to their host nation’s culture on a daily basis.  This immersion has a profound impact on students’ perspectives that carries over into every aspect of their lives.

Why Study in Australia or New Zealand?

When pursuing a degree program abroad, it is critical for students to match their educational and career goals with a strong academic program.  Universities in both Australia and New Zealand are internationally recognized for the quality of their programs  as well as for the innovation of their teaching methods.  In addition, those studying in New Zealand and Australia enjoy the widely-recognized diversity of their degree programs.

Students completing a degree in Australia or at a New Zealand university find the programs are internationally recognized and respected.  This is extremely beneficial whether students elect to pursue post-graduate study or begin careers.

The Benefits of Enrolling in a New Zealand or Australia Degree Program

While most degree programs abroad provide academic and career benefits, choosing to study in New Zealand or Australia’s colleges carry additional benefits.

Educational systems in the South Pacific are keenly targeted.  As a result, working toward a degree in Australia or New Zealand takes less time than in other countries.  This intense approach allows students to focus on their chosen area of study with less emphasis on general electives.  The typical New Zealand and Australia Bachelor’s degree takes three years to complete, for example.

In addition, less entrance exams are required to pursue a degree in Australia or New Zealand.  An SAT or ACT is commonly required for entrance into a Bachelor’s program, however universities in the South Pacific do not require GRE entrance exams.

Finally, students find it actually costs less to pursue a degree in Australia as well as New Zealand.  In addition to the less time consuming degree programs, these South Pacific nations offer a less expensive cost of living then North American nations.

Creating a Magnetic and Engaging Environment for Learning

Teaching has changed little in over two thousand years. This paradigm has failed many students. I have personally met adults who have been to prep, primary and secondary school and are still not able to read and write at a basic level. Now as adults they are attending our Literacy and Numeracy workshops. One must ask the very obvious question: Didn’t anybody notice that these people were not competent in these elementary skills?
Let me show you what is missing in many of our teaching attempts.

Susan Slobac advises college students on study abroad opportunities in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

Here’s Matthew Morrison before he became a TV star in “Glee” singing “You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught” from the Lincoln Center revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific. PBS is going to air the show live in August but it is still unclear whether Morrison will be reprising his role as Lieut. Cable. He should, even if he has to accept PBS scale, because a permanent record of his performance would be invaluable to his career and resume long after “Glee” is forgotten.

Students desiring an enriched educational experience and expanded perspective on the world are well served spending a year or semester abroad at a university in New Zealand, Australia or Fiji. In addition to the personal benefits of such an incredible opportunity, spending a semester or the full school year abroad is an impressive addition to a graduate school application or resume. The global perspective gained by the experience affords students a leg up in future endeavors.

Enrolling in a Year or Semester Abroad Program

Enrolling for a single semester or entire school year abroad is much like enrolling at a university in the United States and Canada. After deciding upon a program that best fits their educational goals, students begin the application and enrollment process. Once accepted at a university in New Zealand, Australia or Fiji, class selection may begin. Credits earned at most universities in Fiji, New Zealand and Australia are easily transferred to a student’s home university. Consulting with a college advisor to confirm the transferability of credits earned during a year or semester abroad is advised.

Advantages of a Year or Semester Abroad in New Zealand, Australia or Fiji

Students find there are numerous advantages to selecting the South Pacific to study abroad. Among the most notable are :

• English is a primary language. – There are no language barriers involved when attending school in the South Pacific. Many students feel one of the most significant advantages of studying abroad in Australia, New Zealand or Fiji is that English is spoken in and out of their class rooms. It is not necessary to undertake intensive foreign language study prior to embarking on a semester or school year abroad.

• Cultural immersion is a perspective broadening experience. – One of the most striking aspects of studying abroad for a year or even just a semester is really getting a sense of the people and cultures in the host nation. Living on campus or exploring the surrounding region provides many opportunities to meet those living in-country or visiting from other nations. Students share food, dance and cultural events that make these South Pacific countries unique. After getting to know people of Australia, New Zealand or Fiji and exploring the region, students acquire the unique understanding and perspective of global citizens. Many students find the experience provides them with an new awareness and appreciation of our global society.

• Explore the region while broadening your education. – Whether students spend one semester or the entire school year abroad in Australia or the neighboring countries, there are ample opportunities to explore the region. Students find the educational benefits studying abroad are not limited to the classroom.

Susan Slobac advises college students on study abroad opportunities in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

ez2url.com This is such a incredible coincidence to be able to actually see this in the expanse of the Pacific Ocean! The yacht ‘Maiken’ is traveling in the south Pacific when they came across a weird sight… It was sand in the water and floating ON TOP of the waves… This is not a beach, it is volcanic stones floating on the water. And then this was spotted… ash and steam rising from the ocean… And, while they were watching… A brand new island formed… Pretty wild, huh?

Explore the South Pacific in a Summer Study Abroad Program!

While classes in North America wind down over the summer, universities in Australia and New Zealand are in full swing. Students can take advantage of the seasonal differences to expand their education and explore the nations of the South Pacific by enrolling in a summer study abroad program.

Since the semester is already underway in the South Pacific during our ‘summer break’, students undertaking summer study in New Zealand and Australia participate in short-term programs that fit their schedule while discovering the remarkable landscapes, coastlines and rich cultures of their host nation.

Where are New Zealand and Australia Summer Study Abroad Programs Held?

Summer study programs are offered through many major universities throughout Australia and New Zealand. In fact, programs are offered by institutions in most major cities. Whether you prefer New Zealand or Australia, summer term options suitable for most fields of study are available.

Why Enroll in a Summer Study Abroad Program?

Studying abroad during the summer is an ideal opportunity to make the most of time between spring and fall semesters at home. Not only does a summer study abroad program allow students to continue their education, but it also provides a rare opportunity to explore the world.

When it comes to summer study australia and New Zealand offer students exceptional opportunities and academic programs. Because seasons in the South Pacific are opposite those of the Northern Hemisphere, the universities there are in full operation during this time. During a New Zealand or Australia summer term, students may choose any number of intriguing programs of study that may not be available at their home university during this time.

Since summer term programs offered at this time are of shorter duration, students can select a summer study abroad program that best fits their university’s schedule and their own course of study. Happily, there are any number of excellent New Zealand and Australia summer study programs available.

Applying for a Summer Study Abroad Program

The application process for these programs is similar to that used by most universities in North America. Applying for a summer study abroad program in the South Pacific typically involves completing an application form or forms. A copy of your official college transcripts will be required and typically a small fee is involved. References from faculty members of your home college or university are often required too.
