Hilary Clinton is No Match to Jenny Ligo

Hilary Clinton may or may not succeed with her new image as a tough, beer swilling heroine of the working classes. However, a politician in Vanuatu, makes Hillary’s efforts pale into insignificance.

Another woman, a world away in the South Pacific, also ran the gauntlet to successfully enter the fractious world of politics. When Viregagaru Ligo Jenny of Ambae island, in the South Pacific Vanuatu archipelago, was married last year she had her first experience of ceremonially clubbing pigs to death, as stipulated by custom law.

Dressed in a woven mat and custom grass skirt, Jenny is once again wielding the ceremonial club. In the midst of squealing pigs she becomes only the second woman to achieve a high ranking chiefly title.

It is rare for a woman to achieve a high ranking title, in an ancient society that has been dominated by the male fist of authority for centuries.

For most woman motherhood comes through the grueling task of childbirth. For Jenny, motherhood came through ceremonially clubbing to death 11 pigs, when Chief Paul Tahi declared her as the ‘Mother of the Nation.’

Most city dwellers would be unaware of the death defying, ear splitting noise one little pig can make, in the face of impending danger. Let alone 11, warning all other pigs for miles around. However, the ceremony is a necessity if Jenny is to stand for her electorate in the upcoming elections later this year.

While both Hillary and Jenny have huge issues to cope with in the political arena, Jenny has an added burden through custom magic.

Over 100 years ago a young priest was shot and killed on Jenny’s home island, causing a curse to be cast on the northern part of the island. “The curse has stopped any forward development,” claims the local inhabitants.

Late last year, Bishop James Ligo, reconciled the descendants of the murdered priest and the local people. “Now the island can finally begin to progress forward.”

“I am not a woman who sits and waits to be served. I am a leader and I mean business when I say I am going to reach out to the people,” says Jenny Ligo.

Jenny is the niece of political and women’s rights’ activist, Grace Molisa. Jenny’s aunt became the first woman to hold the post of Private Secretary to the country’s first Prime Minister, Father Walter Lini, after the nation’s Independence.

In 2006, Vanuatu was nominated ‘The Happiest Country on Earth’. It is hoped that Jenny will take her chiefly role serious when it comes to the education of the children of Vanuatu. School attendance in Vanuatu is very poor, as education is not free.

These stats have changed little since 1998:

#Only 55.8% of kids will get to year 6

#Only 18.2 % will go to high school

#26% never go to school at all.

Your help is needed to educate the next generation of Jenny Ligos, through a Blue Moon Opportunity at winaresort.com

A new program is planned for providing non-repayable high school education grants to children from the outer islands of Vanuatu, beginning in January 2009.

Jenny Ligo will become involved in this scheme, so children will be given the opportunity to understand not only the ancient custom ways, but also embrace the modern beneficial ways of the 21st century.

The only lasting way to bring about real change is when that change is brought about internally, through education.

When the World’s Big Brother is Gone

We have history to remind us of what the world would be like without a strong America. We have the Jimmy Carter presidency, and the Islamic revolution in Iran. We have been criticized for propping up the Shah, a dictator overthrown in that revolt, but at least under his rule, secularism was the fare. People were , ironically, free. Now they suffer the tyranny of religion from the mullahs, Ayatollahs and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Are We A Civilized Nation or Not?

We are either a civilized nation or we are not. Politicians on both sides of the isle, especially the conservatives in each party, seem to have lost their ability to be civil and respectful.
When we tolerate the level of incivility in our political process that we have been seeing lately, we are walking a very dangerous path toward violence and intolerance……..a nation that has lost its moral and civilized grounding.

States are big prisons with gladiators and dogs of sultans!

We all live in big prisons whether a small prison like the Sultanate of Brunei or big ones like the United States and China. We are all submitted to the law of the direction of the prison. We are all subject to the rules of the prison, small or big. We have to survive in our prisons as all other prisoners do. We all submit our will to the prison director and comply by the law of the prison of which the director watches very firmly.

Bon Jovi Tickets – Aiding the Clinton Cause

In the midst of a struggling economy, it’s not only blue collar workers who are feeling the pinch for money as the New Year begins. Politicians are also experiencing the crunch, and one in particular is especially down in debt: Hillary Clinton. The New York senator and former presidential candidate spent millions of dollars in a failed campaign in 2008, and she’s turning to any means possible to help make up for some of that (current) .3 million debt racked up while trying to win the democratic nominee position in the presidential campaign.

While Clinton begins rebuilding, one musician will aid her personal cause: Jon Bon Jovi. The New Jersey-hailed rocker will perform later this month as part of the event dubbed “a final evening in support of Hillary Clinton for President Debt Relief,” a fundraiser set to take place at Manhattan’s Town Hall on January 15. Tickets for the Bon Jovi-led performance/fundraiser range from to ,000.

While Bon Jovi is taking current steps toward social activism in helping Clinton pay off her campaign debt, the 46-year-old musician is no new face in politics. He also performed for former Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton when the two won the Liberty Medal in 2006. With his upcoming performance, Bon Jovi joins the ranks of other Garden State natives Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen, who have both used their music to aid political campaigns (Sinatra in 1960 for John F. Kennedy and Springsteen for John Kerry in 2004).

An influential musical figure these days, Jon Bon Jovi (whose real last name is Bongiovi) started his music career as a janitor at the New York recording studio the Power Station, which his cousin Tony owned. Eventually, Bon Jovi recorded songs in the studio, and the demo “Runaway” garnered incredible attention, scoring the rocker a band and a recording contract with Polygram/Mercury in 1983. Equipped with fellow rockers David Bryan, Alec John Such, Tico Torres and Richie Sambora, the band called Bon Jovi rode the wave from “Runaway” straight to the Billboard charts, following up the song’s success with the 1986 album Slippery When Wet.

Showcasing the number one singles “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer” as well as Top Ten single “Wanted Dead or Alive,” Slippery When Wet exploded on the music scene, establishing Bon Jovi as a leading pop-metal band of the decade. 1988’s New Jersey succeeded the band’s 1986 album with an immediate number one on the Billboard charts, as well.

Bon Jovi was one of the few bands of the ’80s to continue onward in the ’90s with a similarly successful career, and the band kept throwing out hits into the 2000s.

Most recently, Bon Jovi has released Lost Highway, a 2007 release featuring songs with country artists LeAnn Rimes and Big & Rich, gaining a considerable country following in the process. Lost Highway scored big in the U.S., Japan, Australia, Canada and Europe, and Bon Jovi meanwhile has been performing numerous gigs around the globe. It’s never too late to see Bon Jovi live, so check out http://www.stubhub.com/bon-jovi-tickets for Bon Jovi tickets!
