Newton, NC – February 26, 2010 – For more than 15 years, John Tromley has been the Network Administrator for Corpus Christi Allergy & Asthma Center (CCAAC) in Corpus Christi, Texas. He and a part-time assistant are responsible for the efficient operation and security of 110 computers and eight servers at the center.

Like all medical institutions, CCAAC is subject to strict state and federal data protection regulations in the form of the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other legislation, so network security is of the utmost importance. Because of the importance of maintaining confidentiality of health information, Tromley must maintain high levels of protection against viruses and other malware.

Also in common with many medical institutions, however, Tromley has been faced with significant budget cuts, to the extent that even the cost of the center’s anti-virus protection came under scrutiny.

“We had been using Norton AntiVirus,” noted Tromley. “But the annual subscription cost was taking a big chunk out of our budget. We couldn’t afford to sacrifice protection, so I set out to find a solution of equal or better quality but without the high price tag.

“I use AVG Anti-Virus Free at home, and have always been happy with the protection it provides, so I went to their website to check out the company’s network offerings.”

Great Protection at Half the Price

Tromley was impressed with what he read on the AVG website, so he then set out to find a supplier he felt he could work with. He soon found Walling Data, the longest-standing and highest-volume distributor of AVG products in North America, and called them for a quotation.

“Walling Data was already offering very competitive pricing on AVG solutions, plus I caught them during one of their promotions, so the cost to switch to AVG was half the price of Norton,” recalled Tromley. “So, purchasing AVG Anti-Virus Network Edition through Walling was a no-brainer.”

An Unexpected Bonus

Tromley was delighted to discover that, not only did Walling offer extremely competitive pricing, but they also provide all their customers with free, unlimited, U.S.-based pre- and post-sales support.

“I needed some help configuring AVG on our network during the transition, so I called Walling’s support line,” noted Tromley. “A live person hopped right on our network remotely and walked me through the configuration process.

“Having Walling’s staff take the time to help make sure AVG was set up right on our computers was shocking – but in a good way.  It is so rare to come across companies that offer this level of service these days, so I can’t tell you how relieved I was to find out that Walling Data was willing and able to help me for free.”

Avg Anti-Virus And Walling Data Safeguard Hospital Networks Health

Newton, NC April 8, 2010 – Jesse Wulf is a network administrator at Wisconsins Osceola Medical Center (OMC). Like his colleagues, he would be focused on health, but in his case, the health issues related to computers a network of 150 workstations and eight servers, to be precise. Already an avid AVG Anti-Virus user, Wulf had the migration of OMCs network virus protection from Symantec to AVG as a high priority when he came on board.

Past experience had shown me that Symantec didnt do as good a job of detecting viruses and keeping systems clean as AVG, recalled Wulf. It can literally be a matter of life and death if hospital computer systems are not available at all times, so the last thing we could afford was a virus, trojan or spyware shutting us down.

When OMC got a new mail server six months ago, Wulf had found the opportunity he needed to make the change. I was always on the edge of my seat with Symantec, waiting for something to get past them, so I was relieved to be able to move forward with the migration to AVG.

Walling Data – A Pleasant Surprise

When Wulf went shopping for the best deal on an AVG Anti-Virus solution for the business, he ended up with a shortlist of two suppliers.

I was being offered a killer discount by one supplier, he noted. And then I came across Walling Data, who were clearly a leading distributor of AVG Anti-Virus products. Walling appeared to be offering an extra edge with their offer of free and unlimited technical support with all AVG Anti-Virus sales. But would they be able to match the other suppliers price? That was the big question for me.

When Wulf contacted Walling Data, he was in for a pleasant surprise.

Not only was Walling Data happy to match the discount offered by the competing firm, but they bundled in some other perks too, like a multi-year subscription discount and a non-profit discount. Obviously, that sealed the deal for me. Plus, being able to call up Walling and speak to a knowledgeable support staff member was clearly a big value-add.

So he went ahead and purchased 200 licenses of AVG Anti-Virus Business Edition and almost immediately experienced the benefits of that free support.

Uninstalling Symantec was a tedious chore, he says. I had to manually go to every single machine and uninstall the software, so I turned to the guys at Walling Data for help. They were able to walk me through some great short-cuts and I managed to complete the migration with almost no interruption in network service. Wallings support is one of the best such operations Ive come across.

AVG Anti-Virus Still #1

Today, Wulf is more convinced than ever that AVG Anti-Virus is the best anti-virus solution on the market.

Once we installed AVG Anti-Virus on all the machines, the very first scan for caught and removed viruses from quite a few machines which Symantec had certified as clean, he said. Sadly, this was not a surprise. What Ive found out through experience is that, nine times out of 10, if you install AVG on a machine that is running Symantec, McAfee, or any of the other big-name anti-virus software out there, AVG Anti-Virus will find something the others missed.

Wulf also appreciates the softwares miserly use of system resources and full range of functionality, along with the efficiency of the central administration console.

The best feature about AVG for me in a healthcare environment is to be able to see at a glance which machines are out of compliance in other words, their protection is up to date. HIPAA regulations require us to take all possible steps to safeguard our clients data, and Ive not found any other product that can tell me within ten seconds which workstations are non-compliant. So now, instead of having to either physically go to each workstation or scan through each and every workstation, I can go to one place using AVG and see right away which systems need updates, virus scans, or other tasks. It gives me a great overview of our network security.

Walling Data Helps Illinois School District Convert to avast! antivirus

Hickory, NC – April 24th, 2009 – Chris Franzen, technology coordinator for the Nokomis School District in Nokomis, IL manages any project, issue and question related to technology among the district’s 700 students and faculty members.  He’s a one man show, which means that he never has a dull moment and has to make smart decisions about managing his time.  When he joined the district last year and learned that it was running an outdated antivirus solution on its network, finding new antivirus software topped his to-do list.

“The network was running an antique edition of Norton Antivirus, which was not centrally managed, meaning I had to check over 310 computers and 10 servers weekly to make sure the software was updated,” Franzen recalled.   “That process demanded too much of my time and I was eager to find a product to replace Norton.”

Fate Intervenes

Last month Franzen was perusing a forum for school network administrators when he learned that value-added distributor Walling Data was offering a special promotion to schools on his personal favorite antivirus solution, avast!

“I didn’t need to be convinced that avast! antivirus was the best solution to replace Norton because I already used it on my home PC and recommend it to all my friends and family,” said Franzen.  “avast! is a great product and perfect fit for the school district.  It’s strong enough to keep threats at bay, it’s affordable and above all, it’s centrally managed and I can customize it completely to my liking.  That’s a nice feature that other antivirus products often don’t offer.”

Although Franzen was sure that avast! antivirus was the best fit for the Nokomis School District, he needed to convince others to this was the time to make the change.

“Actually, we were not slated to make any software purchases until this summer, but Walling Data was offering such an unbelievable value on avast! that the deal was just too sweet to pass up,” Franzen said.  “So, I approached the superintendent about the deal and explained all the product’s benefits.  That’s how I got approval to move ahead with the purchase of avast! antivirus enterprise suite.”

A day later, Franzen called Walling Data to place the order and joined the more than 75 million registered users of avast! antivirus.

Unbeatable Prices and Customer Service

Walling Data is the only value-added distributor of avast! antivirus products to provide free, unlimited, domestic phone and remote support for all of its customers.  This service was something Frazen raved about.

“The best thing about purchasing from Walling Data is the support team that is willing to help you as much and often as you need it,” Franzen said.  “They installed avast! on our entire network for me and I followed along as it went.  It deployed beautifully on all our Vista and XP machines.”

He continued, “The sales and support team at Walling Data replies very quickly to emails, helped me out with any issue or question, and went above and beyond what you’d expect from a software distributor.  And to top it off, their prices for schools are unbeatable.”

Walling Data Secures State-of-the-Art School Network with AVG Anti-Virus

Hickory, NC – April 24th, 2009 – The Chambers County Board of Education prides itself on operating some of Alabama’s most high-tech, state-of-the-art information technology systems. The Board oversees 11 schools in the Valley and LaFayette areas, including six elementary schools, two middle schools, two secondary schools, and a cutting-edge business/industry certified career technical center. Nine of the county’s 10 schools are certified by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS), a body founded in 1895 to improve education throughout the American South through accreditation, and the 10th is close to completing the accreditation process.

William Groover, the district’s technology director, leads the school system’s efforts in providing a technology environment that will adequately prepare students for tomorrow’s job market. At the classroom level, this manifests itself as a better-than-average ratio of students to computers. In addition, Groover manages the 1,400 workstations and 68 servers that serve the district’s 450 faculty and staff members and 4,200 students.

AVG: Still the Leader of the Pack

This past fall, the district was nearing the end of its license agreement for AVG Anti-Virus Network Edition.  While Groover and his staff were satisfied with AVG’s protection and ease of use, they decided it would be prudent to re-test it against the latest iterations from the other major anti-virus suppliers.

“To keep our network at the cutting edge, we needed to be sure AVG was keeping its edge as well,” said Groover. “So, we put it through its paces alongside Computer Associates, McAfee, Trend Micro, and Symantec.”

Groover was delighted to learn after the tests were complete that AVG was still head-and-shoulders above the rest of the pack.

“AVG wasn’t the cheapest solution, nor was it the most expensive, but the combination of the overall performance, strength, value for money, and ease of use proved that it was still the best anti-virus product for our school system,” he concluded.

One area in particular about the other products that concerned Groover about was the tendency towards incomprehensible and/or misplaced error messages.

“AVG software tells you when there is something wrong, and you can trust that when it raises a flag, there is something that needs to be looked at,” he noted. “AVG doesn’t give you error messages that are unwarranted, unlike other anti-virus products.”

Groover is also sold on the simplicity of AVG’s network management capabilities.

“AVG’s ease of management is a huge plus for us. It is such a benefit to be able to selectively target which workstations AVG will be pushed out to and then do so from one centralized location,” he added.

Walling Data Leads the Pack, Too

After deciding to renew their subscription to AVG Anti-Virus Network Edition, Groover contacted the distributor from whom they’d purchased their current licenses.

“Last time we renewed our subscription, we went with an overseas vendor,” said Groover. “But this time I was less than impressed. I placed several calls to their offices and never got a response. There was clearly little point in continuing to work with them, so I decided to look for another experienced AVG distributor.”

After a quick swing around the AVG website, Groover learned that Walling Data was the leading distributor of AVG solutions to the Education marketplace, so he gave them a call.

“We were delighted to find that Walling could not only give us a great discount on our educational license but would give us unlimited technical support at no extra cost,” recalled Groover. “A lot of companies offer free support for a certain time period, but with Walling there was no question about it – you call them anytime you need help and they are there for you.”

Walling Data is the longest-standing and highest-volume distributor of AVG Technologies solutions in North America. The company is also the only distributor to offer all its customers – resellers and end-users – free, unlimited, U.S.-based pre- and post-sales support.

Groover and his team is currently deploying the AVG upgrade across their networks

“We had some initial questions about setting up the software and rolling it out, but after talking to the Walling support team, everything is moving along just fine,” said Groover. “We like the new version – and our new supplier – a whole lot better.”
