It is a legendary game who tied countless players to their screens for what, over, more than 15 years it has been. Which game, endured being outdated so much more than this? Which game, is still being played as a so popular and exciting multiplayer game in network cafes? Which game have players been calling contests for, since the whole network gaming conests invented? It is Age of Empires, Ancient times, Rise of rome, Age of Kings, The Conquerors and maybe III. It has been in hearts of old school gamers since the old school times and until now and probably, will forever be. What can replace the feeling, which occurs when you repeat something you have done years ago? Maybe you remember your childhood? Maybe you remember your youth? Maybe something else? Something you had lived when playing this game. I don’t know but this game reminds me of these all things, and it is such a splendid feeling.

It was 1995 and I do remember my mother playing this game in front of the computer, trying to teach me. I learned quick enough and soon started to best her in multiplayer. That was the first Age of Empires game, which i am not sure what it name was, but probably something like Ancient Times, Ancient Ages, etc. Then came Rise of Rome, an expansion pack to it. I never had the chance to buy and install it at the time but way later, when i finally was able to play it, i wish i could reverse time and buy the game just after it was released. Not that it troubles me to see that i couldn’t anticipate anything better, it is still a faint wish of if-only about the past. Some years after Rise of Rome expansion, at 1998, when i bought my first PC with win98 in it, Age of Kings was released. I was quite excited about this, since i wasn’t able to play the game for quite long time and now there were a new version of it, an improved one, in both graphics and play. I hastily went to the store and grabbed the first Age Of Kings disc i saw. I was maybe the only one to buy the game so far, but indeed, no room for surprises, that it was both early in the morning and was just the release date. After installing the game, i noticed that there were more than significant improvements in the game. There were way more factions that we were able to choose. All those factions had many different, special powers and functions. Such as Teutons with excellent heavy infantry and Mongols with nice light cavalry. There were wide range of selectable random map types, which were also, unlike the first version, could be used as multiplayer maps aswell. There were different game types, such as Regicide, where you have a king and have to protect it. Defend the wonder, where player 1 has a wonder which he needs to defend and all his enemies try to capture and hold it. Wonder race, where all the players start building wonders and first one to build # wonders wins. There were again, 4 ages but these were way different from what there were in the first game. Instead of prehistoric age there were Dark age. And as it went, stone age, bronze age, iron age in the primary game, there were, feudal, castle and imperial ages in Age of Empires, Age of kings.

Although there were other things which were adapted directly from the first game. Such as building farms, building mills to be able to build farms. Ordering villagers to work at farms. Gathering animals. And of course whole basic way of the game, gathering resources, training army with it, improving the army quality with the resources and making war with what heap of army you have. There were still just re-customized improvements and units. Like instead of clubman, there were militiamen. Nevertheless, this way is what makes this game so exciting and playable. And maybe just the cause of its constitution. I really hope this epic game wont soon be forgotten.

Back in Moscow, I’ve bought an Age of Empires 2 Age of Kings disc in one of the markets in the year when the real game was released. How To Effectively Turtle In Age Of Empires 3

Age of Empires is a real time strategy game for the PC. In Age of Empires, there are three common strategies, rushing, booming, and turtling. Rushing consists of getting to age 2 ASAP and building a barracks so you can create a small army and cripple the opponent’s economy early on. Booming is where you start creating villagers right off the bat and create an enormous economy so you can make a massive, fully upgraded army later in the game. Turtling is, in my opinion, the best of the three strategies, you start by fortifying your position immediately and spreading across most of the map, after they fortify, they essentially become boomers. This guide will hopefully help you turtle your way to victory.

If you want to turtle you need to have a good civilization. For the purposes of this guide, I will be using the Portuguese because they get a town center wagon every time they level up.

Start by building a wall around your town center, a SMALL wall that just barely gives your settlers enough room to get out. (If you have extra wood lying around build extra gates around the town center.

Task three settlers on wood, one on coin, and two on food.

Create villagers until you hit the population cap tasking them appropriately.

Have the last villager build a house.

Build five more villagers and make sure that there are five on each resource

Age up with the philosopher prince, and then build four villagers.

While you age up have a spare villager, build a barracks and build five skirmishers and five pike men.

Build a new town center close to your old one and build a similar wall around it.

Build an extra house or two and age up with the exiled prince.

Build 5 more villagers and a wall that encompasses your entire base and build a new town center near your other two.

Continue to act like a boomer until the end of the game.

Turtling is an important strategy to use in the PC game Age of Empires 3. To effectively use this strategy, you must have a good deck of cards. Here are some cards you should have to make up a good deck.

Crates of 300 Food – In the beginning of many games, you will definitely appreciate 300 extra food.

Crates of 300 Wood – If you turtle, you will be building lots of walls in the beginning, so you may like 300 extra wood.

Advanced Trading Post – This card makes trading posts into weak Outposts and makes them cost 100 wood less.

Improved Buildings – This card will make your buildings have 40% more hit points, which could be the difference between having your town center destroyed and winning the game.

Advanced Mill – This card will make mills cost 200 less wood and have twice as many hit points, I find that mills can be rather expensive early in the game.

Advanced Plantation – This card will make your plantations cost 31% less wood and have twice as many hit points. I find that plantations are extremely expensive early on at 800 wood.

TEAM Improved Walls – This card makes you and your partners’ walls 50% stronger; this is a very good card that could also mean the difference between victory and defeat.

Frontier Defenses – This card ships two outpost wagons to your town center, good for defending that far off trading post or for defeating enemy raids.

Advanced Arsenal – This card gives you very good improvements for your arsenal.

Stonemasons – This card makes most of the building in the game go up faster, always good for a turtler.

2 Organ Guns – This card ships two organ guns to your town center. Organ guns are very good for repelling raids of infantry.

Fort – This card ships a powerful fortress wagon that can be used to defend your colony.

House of Braganca – This card makes all trade route improvements free. Good if you are near a trade route, as improvements are usually costly.

Donatarios – This card increases the build limit for town centers by two, good for expansion.

2 Covered Wagons – This card ships 2 covered wagons to your town center, this card is good to send right after Donatarios.

Advanced Hot Air Balloon – This card ships a permanent hot air balloon to your town center. Hot air balloons are good for spying on your enemy, but become useless if you research ”Spies”.

Heavy Fortifications – This card fully upgrades every building except for one improvement on a fort, good if you have been slacking off on improving you buildings.

Castramentation – Same as ”Fort”.

Factory – Ships a factory wagon to your town center. Factories are very useful because they can infinite amounts of any resource or heavy cannons.

Robber Barons – Same as ”Factory”.

If you can pull these cards into a single deck, you will have a greater chance of success at employing the turtling technique in Age of Empires 3.

Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings (often shortened to AGE2, The Age of Kings, AoE II or AoK) is a real-time strategy (RTS) video game developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft. Released in 1999 for the Microsoft Windows and Macintosh operating systems, it was the second game in the Age of Empires series. An expansion, The Conquerors, was released in 2000. The Age of Kings is set in the Middle Ages and contains thirteen playable civilizations. Players aim to gather resources, which they use to build towns, create armies, and ultimately defeat their enemies. Despite using the same game engine and similar code to its predecessor, development of The Age of Kings took a year longer than expected, forcing Ensemble Studios to release Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome in 1998 instead. The design team focused on resolving significant issues in Age of Empires, but noted on release that some problems remained.

Reception of The Age of Kings was overwhelmingly positive, and the game scored highly on review aggregators. The significant number of new features was praised, as were the gameplay improvements. Some reviewers were critical of the presentation of units—they were seen as bland and uninteresting—while others considered The Age of Kings to be overly similar to its predecessor, Age of Empires.
