Learning Counter-Strike Source

]]>

Counter Strike has been a hugely successful game for over a decade now, with new players starting out every day. This is good overall for the gaming community, but can often be very frustrating for the new players that find themselves up against veterans of several years or more. A learning curve is to be expected with any game, but in Counter Strike, it can be so frustrating that it leads to many new players giving up.

The real disconnect between the semi-pro players and the “newbies” however is not simply long hours of experience. There are some fundamentals to the game that every players needs to learn. Without this solid foundation, your chances of success are slim.

Equipment

It may seem like a basic thing to the experienced, but I have met countless Counter Strike players that have played for years and did not know that you could double your chances of survival by purchasing armor at the beginning of every round. If possible, never play a round without armor. With limited funds, I would buy armor before buying a primary weapon and just stick with the pistol.

If you are playing on a bomb map, ALWAYS buy a defuse kit. If you have to choose between the kit and armor or a weapon, buy the kit. Having a defuse kit cuts bomb defuse time down by two thirds. Defusing the bomb grants a significant bonus to your team, and you will get a lot more money the next round. Buy the kit before anything else. It is THAT good.

Combat

Counter Strike has a feature known as “locational damage.” That means that damage is taken according to where a bullet strikes a player. Hits to the center mass cause a lot more damage than limb shots. Hits to the head are almost always fatal.

When facing off against opponents, place your crosshairs just above the enemies belt if possible. Your weapon (and therefore, your shots) will rise with recoil, striking your enemy in the chest and possibly the head. This will help you deal out maximum damage.

Rifles deal the most damage and should be used whenever possible. I could not count the amount of times I see new players running around using a sub-machinegun (SMG) a dozen rounds into the game, when money is plentiful. Rifles penetrate armor better, penetrate obstacles better, shoot straighter, and do a lot more damage. Buy a rifle as soon as you can.

Be on the lookout for flash-bang grenades. You can usually hear them bouncing along the ground before you can see them. If one lands near you, quickly turn your head the other direction. This will minimize the flash effect, and possibly still leave you with some sight when your enemy jumps out to attack.

Practice

If you still feel like you are outclassed by the “regulars,” set up a local server on your own PC and play against some bots. Bots can be configured to play at various skill levels and are a great training tool.

Successful but unhappy.

As a General Manager of an international business hotel in central Vienna I had a great future ahead. This well paid work allowed me to drive a BMW convertible and having an expensive lifestyle. What most people did not know were that I was over worked, not happy and that I frequently suffered from ulcers.

I knew for sure that I could not go on like this and I also knew that to be able to live a happy life, I would have to follow my heart instead of my head. As everyone else I listened to what you are supposed to do, instead of what you love to do. My life was a mess.

Changing my life.

Finally I gathered all my courage and took the decision to make a change. It was a terrifying experience to quit my job, not knowing what would happen after. I sold my BMW and bought a motorcycle which I always had been dreaming of. I also took all my expensive suits and sold them at the flea market (some were stolen). I did not care as I started to feel better and I slowly got some of my life energy back.

My so called friends thought I was crazy and refused to talk to me anymore. How could I leave a lifestyle that most people were just dreaming of?

I later realized that they all felt threatened, as they new that they should change themselves, but couldn’t make it.

The love for my son.

I spent my first 7 months taking care of my very young son when his mother looked after her restaurant. This was one of the best times I ever had, being close to my child. Unfortunately my partner betrayed me several times and I could not live with it.

It was time to take the next step. I wanted to travel and learn from other people and cultures and I knew that I could not live in Vienna anymore. I had suddenly another life decision to take.

Should I stay with my son and be an unhappy father or should I move on and find another future that he eventually could share with me?

Following my heart

Again I followed my feelings that I should move on although I had a broken heart. My dream was to learn from indigenous people like the native American Indian, the native Hawaiian, Aborigines in Australia, Maori people in New Zealand and the South Pacific Island culture.

I wanted to get knowledge about life from these cultures and form a solid foundation for my own life and possibly for others.

I learned more than you can imagine and I was received with love and respect wherever I went. Finally I came to a small South Pacific Island called Samoa where my life suddenly changed.

A new life on a South Pacific island

During my 10 days visit to Samoa I met a fantastic local girl that I now have been married to for 14 years. She gave me another 2 children plus 4 kids that she had from before. One of my biggest happiness is a girl that we adopted who today is my oldest daughter.

After 14 years successful running of our small hotel plus a resort our life suddenly changed. Samoa were hit by a tsunami wave and I was separated from my family and had no idea if they were still alive. I finally found them running through the forest with two small babies.

Profound lessons of life

I suddenly learned how precious life is and how much you should value your family and everything you have. Life is too short to dwell in unhappy activities and things you do not enjoy. I felt very strongly that I needed to share this with you and other people.

Tourism came to a full stop and our income dried up as well. We moved away from the beach and started a new life focusing on internet marketing. With no money and a big family to feed we had many days when we were eating rice only, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

This was the first time in my life I experienced what it means to be hungry.

The secret to health and wealth

After much struggle and incredible help from my family in Europe, our life got better again. More than ever I understood that I need to share my gained knowledge and experience with you and other people to make you understand how much you should value what you have and only involve yourself in activities that you love to do.

You are unique and you have your unique skills that you are born with, together with your unique life experience. Using your special skills and experiences from your upbringing, will make you do certain things better than any other person on this planet.

Be brave and take your first step in a direction that you like to take your life. You don’t need to quit your job but you sometimes do need to take steps where you have no idea about the outcome. It might look scary in the beginning but when it is done you are a different person.

Only do things you love to do and try to make a possible healthy living out of it. There is no other way to success and happiness.
