Egg recall is still going on, a recall of 228 million eggs because of reports of salmonella-related outbreaks in several Western and midwestern states. ABC News has the egg recall list to help consumers stay informed.
“Salmonella enteritidis is one of the top three common strains of salmonella. Quite a lot of Salmonella enteritidis is associated with eggs,” said Dr. Sara Cody, deputy health officer of the Public Health Department in the county. Symptoms of Salmonella include fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Symptoms usually only last for a day or two, however, be aware that serious complications can result from salmonella.
Eggs affected by this recall were distributed to food wholesalers, distribution centers and food service companies in California, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. These companies distribute nationwide.
“Don’t eat raw eggs. There is always a chance that an egg could be contaminated with salmonella,” Cody said. She also advised individuals to ensure that the eggs that they purchase and eat are cooked thoroughly to avoid eating contaminated eggs.
Consumers are being warned about the names the eggs are packaged in. The brand names include Lucerne, Albertsons, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, and Kemps.
If you have recently bought egg products from one of the brand names listed above, you should look out for plant numbers P-1026, P-1413 and P-1946 which are contained on the packaging. You can return the eggs to where you bought them for a full refund.
