Adobe’s Flash Player is described as a “a cross-platform browser-based application runtime that provides uncompromised viewing of expressive applications, content, and videos across screens and browsers.” Once associated mainly with interactive ad banners and simple games, it has become a mainstay of web video, offered by sites like Hulu, YouTube, and countless others.

The company’s last significant upgrade of its desktop version, Flash Player 10.1, was released last year. A key addition at the time was hardware decoding of H.264 video on computers using GPUs from AMD/ATI GPUs (Radeon HD and FirePro), Broadcom (Crystal HD BCM70012 and BCM70015), Intel (GMA500, 4 Series chipset, 2010 Core processors), and Nvidia (GeForce, Ion, and Quadro). However, GPU assistance wasn’t available either on Linux or Mac OS X desktops.

Flash Player 10.2 again majors in hardware decoding, but this time extends its reach further downwards, toward low-power and embedded devices. According to AMD, it worked with Adobe to enable accelerated 1080p video decoding on the  E-Series and C-Series APUs (“advanced processing units”), now making their way into notebooks (such as the HP Pavilion dm1z we recently reviewed) and other products.

Adobe says Flash Player 10.2’s enhanced performance on the AMD APUs, as well as the other supported GPUs, is due to Stage Video, “a new method for video playback.” This “dramatically decreases” processor usage and also lowers the amount of RAM flash requires, the company claims.

According to Adobe’s release notes, when Flash video playback is switched into full-screen mode on a secondary monitor, it will remain that way even when user are doing work on their main screens. (In our brief testing of the upgrade, this proved to be true, though not with Firefox 3 — a known issue, says Adobe.)

Other improvements in Flash Player 10.2 include the ability for developers to define custom native mouse cursors, security enhancements, and improved text readability, according to Adobe. Flash Player also now takes advantage of harware-accelerated graphics in Internet Explorer 9, “utilizing hardware rendering surfaces to improve graphics performance and enable seamless composition,” the company says.

Adobe adds that H.264 hardware decoding on Linux is still considered an “experimental feature,” though it has been tested on Nvidia GT 330 and Broadcom BCM70015 GPUs. Users may enable it by adding the command EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1 to an mms.cfg configuration file, but might “experience instability and crashes while watching hardware-accelerated video,” the company warns.

According to Adobe, Flash Player 10.2 no longer supports Windows 2000 or PowerPC-based computers. The latter is because of “performance enhancements that cannot be supported on the older PowerPC architecture,” the company says.

John Taylor, director of client product and software marketing for AMD, stated, “AMD and Adobe worked together to enable AMD accelerated parallel processing technology through Flash Player 10.2 to bring users an enriched, more vivid video experience. Adobe continues to work towards ensuring top-notch delivery of web and video content, and remains the number one video platform on the web today.”

Further information

In some cases, such as with Google’s Chrome browser, users will find that the 10.2 update of the Flash Player is installed on their computers automatically. Instructions for installing the update (currently version 10.2.152) manually can be found on Adobe’s website.

You may be facing trouble with flash player whenever you try to open a file. There are several reasons behind it. Mostly in Windows operating system files don’t open properly because the Windows settings related to File Associations are corrupted. It is very important to fix file association errors.

What happens is that with the passage of the Windows Registry size increases with increase in daily computing. In fact Registry is very important part of operating system where information is stored in form of sensitive codes. If there is minor disturbance in codes then it can ruin your system.

What should we do when Flash player is not working? Certainly you have to remove and reinstall it. In Windows you can use built-in “Add/Remove Programs” which is standard method to remove unwanted programs. But there is problem with Flash player; you cannot fully remove it this way.

If we use Add Remove Programs then there are still registry keys, services and processes which are hidden. And if we do not remove these hidden files sitting on the corner of the hard drive then it these will hog space and take much RAM usage rate resulting your PC to perform slower.

In order to remove Adobe Flash player completely, use official uninstaller tool.

Now you have removed flash player form your computer. Next step is to download earlier version, say Flash player 9 on your computer. Sometimes there are Flash browser conflicts and changing version fixes your issue.

Sometimes there is problem in sound drivers and that may be the cause behind your flash player. So, you have to update drivers.

1.      Open Device Manager.

2.      Find out the sound card driver.

3.      Note down its name and vendor.

4.      Uninstall it form your computer.

5.      Now reboot your machine and update drivers if they are not automatically updated.

Always, faster computer will play content faster. An optimized system, bug free Windows registry will enable flash player to perform more quickly. The best method to repair Windows Registry is using a Registry Cleaner. Advanced registry cleaners are equipped with pc optimization feature.

It is interesting to watch videos online; however, it is difficult to watch when there is no sound. Flash is an important component that helps a browser to display browser properly. If there is minor error or conflict then it may stop Flash Player sound. To Fix Flash Play No Sound issue, it is important to adjust few settings in your computer.

Below are outlined few steps to help you resolve Flash Player No Sound Issue quite quickly.

1)      Flash stores its files in temp files folder. If there is corrupt download then it may cause sound problem.  To fix this issue you have to

Remove  the following folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Application Data\Adobe\Flash Player
C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player

2)      Remove your Temporary Internet Files, to do this follow the steps
a) Open your Browser
b) Click on Tools in the menu bar
c) Clear Private Data / Remove Private Data (Opera). If you are using Internet Explorer then Go to Tools and then Internet Options.

3)      Remove/Empty your system’s temporary files folder
a)Click on Start
b) Go to Run
c) Type here –rmdir/s/q”temp”—and press Enter
d) Or simple  Go To RUNà Type %temp%–remove all files inside

4)      Install the latest version of Flash plugin.

5)      Run (K-lite Codec Tweak tool). Here you can see an option to fix the sound (Midi,waveOut) select it and press Next. This fix would restore a missing “wavemapper” registry key.

6)      Also check your sound device setting, to do this follow these steps
a)Go to Start
b)Click on Settings
c)Click on Control Panel
d)Next Click on Sound and Audio Devices
e)Audio

7)      Do you have QuickTime Installed , if so then go to the QuickTime control panel.
>Audio tab and set “Default Music Synthesizer” to General MIDI”
>In Advanced tab, disable “Enable playback of Adobe Flash Tracks”
>Browser tab, Click on “MIMI Settings”. Under “Miscellaneous” uncheck “Flash media”

8)      Check if the file msacm32.drv is present in the
C:\Windows\system32 folder.
If not, copy it from another PC (that has the same version of Windows) and place the file in the system32 folder. If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, then the file should be present in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder.

9)      Install a registry cleaner on your computer.

 

If you are still facing Flash Player No Sound problem, then you should move to the next method.

1) Open your Registry Editor. (Start>RUN>Regedit)

2) Expand [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]

3) Click on SOFTWARE

4) Click on Microsoft

5) Next Move to Windows NT

6) CurrentVersion

7) Drivers32

8) Make sure you are  here [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]

9)      Paste this information here

Save this file as (missing.reg) and then double click on the saved file to import it into your registry. However, it is important to keep in mind that Windows registry is crucial part of the operating system. If there is small corruption in registry keys then there are chances that you loose important data. The Flash Player is one of the great necessities for Personal Computers to run high-end graphics applications. It is an extensively distributed proprietary multimedia and application player initially created by Macromedia but now developed and distributed by Adobe after some brand disputes. The Flash Player runs SWF (Shock Wave Flash) files which are created by any third party tools including Macromedia.

The Flash Player, written and distributed by Adobe, uses vector and raster graphics, ActionScript, a native scripting language, and bidirectional streaming of video and audio. “Flash” can mean an authoring environment, a virtual player machine running Flash files and application files.

Flash Player has support for an embedded scripting language called ActionScript (AS), which is based on ECMAScript. Since its commencement, ActionScript has matured from script syntax without variables to one that supports object-oriented code, and may now be compared in capability to JavaScript.

The Flash Player was originally designed to display 2-dimensional vector animation, but has since become suitable for creating rich Internet applications and streaming video and audio. It uses vector graphics to minimize file size and create files that save bandwidth and loading time.

The Flash Player is built into some browsers and is available as a plugin for recent versions of other browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari and Internet Explorer on selected platforms.

Adobe and NVIDIA Announce GPU Acceleration for Flash Player

NVIDIA , the inventor of the GPU, and Adobe Systems Incorporated announced that they are collaborating as part of the Open Screen Project to optimize and enable Adobe Flash Player, a key component of the Adobe Flash Platform, to leverage GPU video and graphics acceleration on a wide range of mobile Internet devices, including netbooks, tablets, mobile phones and other on-the-go media devices.

Adobe Flash Player will be accelerated across the range of NVIDIA processors, including NVIDIA Tegra, enabling users to enjoy uncompromised Web browsing, full H.264 video playback, and rich, consistent Flash technology based content any time, any place, and on any platform.

NVIDIA is also participating in the Open Screen Project, a broad initiative of 25 industry leaders to deliver a consistent runtime environment across devices. Led by Adobe, the Open Screen Project is dedicated to enable Web content and standalone applications across desktops, netbooks, mobile devices, televisions, and other consumer electronics that take advantage of Adobe Flash Platform capabilities. How to Fix Macromedia Flash Player Errors

Many computer programs and online applications (for example, YouTube videos) rely on Macromedia Flash Player for their performance and to provide an extreme level of interaction with computer media.  Unfortunately, this program seems to be the root of a number of confusing Macromedia Flash Player errors.  Fixing these issues is often necessary to use certain web pages, view videos, and play games online.

Common Flash Player Errors

Internet browsers very often encounter Flash Player errors and inform the user that an update is required.

To upgrade to the most recent version of Flash Player, simply follow the provided link or search for “Macromedia Flash Player” or “Adobe Flash Player,” and follow the installation instructions there. Macromedia was acquired by Adobe, so they are the same product. Be careful to not confuse Adobe Flash Player with Adobe Reader.  These are two different programs requiring separate installations — having a current Adobe Reader does not mean that Adobe Flash Player is up to date.

Simply installing the latest Flash Player may not fix the problem.  Often the user will find that the correct version of Flash Player is already installed and that error messages persist.  If this is the case, it is likely that some components of an earlier version of Flash remain on the hard drive.

This problem is localized in the computer’s registry, a place in a Windows machine that stores data referring to user preferences, program installation and deletion, and other background files that allow a PC to function.

Remove Older Versions of Flash Player

If the computer is running the correct version of Flash Player and errors are still present, it will be necessary to remove previous versions from the hard drive.  This requires a special technique, even if the user has used the Add/Remove feature to uninstall Flash Player.

Adobe offers a special “Uninstallation Tool” that claims to ensure the complete removal of the program from the hard drive.Once the uninstallation is complete, re-install the correct version of Flash Player on the computer.

All other programs–especially web browsers–need to be closed and not running to ensure a complete installation of Flash.  The computer may even need to be shut down and restarted in order for all programs (and browsers) to recognize the current version of Flash Player

Continuing Problems with Macromedia Flash Player

If these suggestions do not solve the issue, it may be that the computer’s registry continues to contain fragments of data pertaining to older versions of Flash that need to be cleared in order to stop seeing Flash Player errors.

Regular maintenance of your computer is the best way to ensure that these types of errors don’t get out of hand.  Fix Macromedia Flash Player errors using a trusted registry cleaner to repair damaged files and clean up cluttered entries.

Flash has become synonymous with animation on the Internet. It’s even possible that It is now the most widely distributed piece of software on the Internet-ahead of Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, and Real Player. In 2001, Flash was through five versions at Macromedia-and it still has much of the code that was written for pen computers. The latest version of the player which is used now is the Flash player 10.1. It has become most distributed software on the internet for watching videos online. This has become common add-in with all the Internet browsers. Flash player initial was called as Macromedia Flash Player but now it’s known as Adobe Flash player. It has been acquired by Adobe Systems.

 

Flash Video is a container file format used to deliver video over the Internet using Adobe Flash Player. It runs as a browser plug-in, it is possible to embed Flash Video in web pages and view the video within a web browser. It has support for a scripting language called Action Script, which can be used to display Flash Video from an SWF file. It is a type of media player that is used for playing Flash video from PC as well as from Internet websites.

 

It is available as free software on the Internet.  There is player for every Operating System may it be Macintosh or Microsoft Windows. However the installation differs from browser to browser, with Internet explorer it installs Active X first and then installs the flv player. It has a limitation also that it does not work with the 64 bit Internet explorer. Many user are not aware about it and they face problem because of that, waste hell lot of time in installing it. It happens with 64 bit windows operating system. For further help on installation and troubleshooting of flash player speak to a tech expert. It is compatible with all the browsers, may it Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. User can download Flash player from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and install the same.

 

FLV Player supppots different file formate. Support for video in SWF file format was added in Flash Player 6, released in 2002. In 2003, Flash Player 7 added direct support for FLV file format. Because of restrictions in the FLV file format, Adobe Systems has created in 2007 new file formats listed below, based on the ISO base media file format. It does not check the extension of the file, but rather looks inside the file to detect which format it is.

The media types supported by Flash player are:

Supported media types in FLV file format:

Video: On2 VP6, Sorenson Spark (Sorenson H.263), Screen video, H.264
Audio: MP3, ADPCM, Linear PCM, Nellymoser, Speex, AAC, G.711 (reserved for internal use)

Supported media types in F4V file format:

Video: H.264
Images (still frame of video data): GIF, PNG, JPEG
Audio: AAC, HE-AAC, MP3

It is the most widely used online player today.

Flash Player 10.1 for Android by Adobe

Flash Player 10.1 had just arrived on Android smartphone in a completely rewritten version. A public beta will be available in June for the devices under Froyo (Android 2.2) is considered to be too powerful by Adobe.

Faced with criticism from Apple, Adobe has a copy adapted to the constraints for smartphones. The program includes video playback with hardware decoding, new smart zoom and a management report to the screen, but for only Android version 2.2, which has just been unveiled.

Adobe is also responsible for testing equipment and to define those who will have access to Flash in the Android Market. Android 2.2 installed on a smartphone first generation did not automatically open the doors to Flash.

The first big news is the arrival of the hardware acceleration for Flash, especially playing H.264 files for better performance and especially lower consumption, leading to a playback time of three hours depending on the Nexus One Adobe.

Adobe promises that the software is optimized for each hardware architecture, in collaboration with industry members Open Screen Projection. 

Another performance optimization, the reader is here concerned not only to generate rendering what is visible on the screen. Older versions of them, treated the whole scene by limiting the display to a defined framework.

A single Flash file for office and mobile

Level ergonomics, Mark Doherty, platform evangelist on Flash says that “the finger is a big mouse,” and that therefore the changes are not so important. Flash Mobile introduces still gesture recognition, multicast and management of the accelerometer that allows switching between landscape and portrait formats.

Is also introduced as “SmartZoom, which adapts to the player screen and you can enlarge to full screen any animation at double support.

Mark Doherty believes that “people want access to content available on their desktop on their smartphone”. Most of the existing files are compatible, the firm is also working with more than 170 content providers in this regard.

The player can then adjust the reading by the user browser (the identifier of each brand and version of a browser). One way to agree with the recognition of output screens introduced in HTML5.

This version should arrive in public beta in June with no hardware acceleration even if Adobe says it is operational.

Side note, Mark Doherty says that Adobe is “right on schedule” thinking in porting the past two years. The company accelerates its mobile development yet in recent months.

The reason? The ancients were not powered smartphones in need for Flash, including the first Android devices.

Other systems will soon host the drive, including Windows 7 Phone, Palm / HP webOS, BlackBerry and Symbian on dates unknown.

Adobe will also work with manufacturers for integration into their future tablets, such as HP.

Supported devices for the Android Public Beta include the Google Nexus One and others as Froyo becomes available to the device. Flash Player 10.1 is the first runtime release of the Open Screen Project that enables uncompromised Web browsing of expressive applications, content and video across devices.

On 23 October, 2001, Apple released the first ever iPod. It appeared after less than a year’s development, and was Apple’s response to what it saw as a gap in the personal digital market. Until this point, digital music players were too large to be practical or too small to work properly. Apple changed this situation overnight with a 5GB device of modest size that held up to a 1,000 songs.

The first iPod was white with a monochrome screen. Users navigated it with a mechanical scroll wheel and a centre button. Other features included a FireWire rather than a USB connection, and a battery that held a charge for about ten hours of music playback.

The iPod made its mark instantly. Although it was only compatible with Mac computers, Windows users employed third party software to get round this problem. It was clear Apple could fill the gap in the market that the company had identified.

iTunes
iTunes became available in January 2001, nine months before the first iPod. iTunes formed part of Apple’s iLife software, and enabled users to transfer the content of CDs to their Macs, organise the music, and play it through their computers. The arrival of the iPod, together with iTunes 2.0, meant that everyone could now go one step further and copy their music from computers to portable players.

Since iTunes 2.0, Apple has introduced regular iTunes updates. The iTunes Store came online in April 2003, and six months later iTunes 4.1 made iTunes compatible with Windows. Further developments include access to music videos; podcasts; audiobooks; films; TV programmes; games; and applications. Apple has complemented these improvements with features such as Album Artwork; Cover Flow; and, most recently, Genius.

Technology
The first iPod stored music on a hard drive, a medium that the iPod classic continues using to this day. iPod minis (January 2004 – September 2005) had one inch microdrives with either 4GB or 6GB capacities. The iPod nano, shuffle, and touch have always had flash memories.

Colour screens arrived with the fourth generation iPod, also known as the iPod photo, in October 2004. From June the following year, all iPods dropped the black and white screens and had colour displays. These developed further into the two inch, two and a half inch, and three and a half inch screens that are now part of the nano, classic, and touch respectively.

The iPod’s controls began with the mechanical scroll wheel. A touch-sensitive wheel, and then the Click Wheel, followed this. The third generation iPod, however, combined a wheel with four horizontal buttons beneath the screen from April 2003. Apple changed this layout to just a touch-sensitive wheel in July 2004.

The most significant departure from the wheel arrangement appears on the iPod touch. Released in September 2007, the iPod touch has a Multi-Touch screen that users tap and run their fingers across to control the iPod’s functions.

The Click Wheel remains, though, as one of the distinctive features of the iPod classic and iPod nano ranges. The iPod shuffle, first released in January 2005, has a five button arrangement in the shape of a circle.

Connectivity for iPods has also changed. To begin with, Apple maintained exclusive use of FireWire, the original connection for iPods. In April 2003, with the advent of the third generation iPod, Apple included USB connectivity for the first time. In September 2005, all iPod models became USB only. This move confirmed iPods as the leading portable music player, and reflected the need to link to all computers.

Storage capacity
Apple began the iPod range with 5GB of storage. Within six months, a 10GB model appeared, followed by a 20GB second generation iPod in July 2002. Storage capacity hit its peak in September 2007 with the 160GB model of the sixth generation iPod (the “classic”), although this has since been dropped. The highest capacity, with the potential to hold 30,000 songs or 150 hours of video on a 1.8 inch hard drive, is the current 120GB iPod classic.

The latest iPod shuffle offers 1GB and 2GB options for 240 or 500 songs. The nano has 8GB and 16GB, and the iPod touch gives you a choice of 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB. iPod owners also have the ability to store digital media in their iTunes libraries.

Windows
Windows users who bought first generation iPods had to obtain software such as XPlay because they couldn’t download iTunes. To ease this problem, Apple released two versions of second generation iPods in October 2002. One came with iTunes for Mac owners; the other had Musicmatch Jukebox for Windows users.

In October 2003, Apple launched iTunes for Windows, and from then on all iPods were suitable for Mac and Windows users. Today, iPods no longer come with iTunes: the software is available to everyone as a free download.

Video
One of the most significant boosts for iPods was the introduction of video. This came with the fifth generation iPod in October 2005. Originally available in 30GB and 60GB versions, the fifth generation was slimmer than its predecessor and with a larger screen.

Battery support for video playback was two hours for the 30GB model, and three hours for the 60GB. This jumped to six and half hours, however, with the arrival of the 80GB fifth generation upgrade in September 2006.

Video playback is now a standard feature on the iPod classic, the touch and the nano.

Sales
iPods are the most popular type of digital music player in the world. Their share of the market is more than 70%, and total sales have exceeded 160 million. Apple has sold around a quarter of this figure within the last year.
