More secrets than a simple South Sea Pearl

The secret to the perfect south sea pearl necklace is all in the shape, size and lustre of the fine pearls. Similar to the Akoya pearl, the south sea pearl is cultivated in the salt water seas of Australia, Indonesia and other southern countries. They are especially pursued because of their large size and the thick layer of nacre that surrounds them. Due to their large size, between 10 and 16 millimetres, it is very difficult to find the perfect round pearl, but they often have deep mezmorizing rich color which tends to offset any shape imperfections.Without a doubt the best colors are white and golden lustre. It therefore goes without saying that the south sea pearl necklace is definitely one of the world’s finest pieces of jewelry that one could possibly own.

Which brings us to the Beauty of the cultured akoya pearl necklace
Classic jewelry makes dressing up easy. A classic cultured akoya pearl necklace transforms the neckline with shine and luster. The distinctive Akoya creamy colored pearl strands are timeless. They were the first pearls to be cultured on a mass scale and without a doubt still the most recognised today. The cultured akoya pearl necklace are hand made from pearls cultivated in the saltwaters of China and Japan. Best known for their deep luster and almost perfect round shape, akoya pearls are definitely a signature natural gem. They range in size from 4mm to 9mm, and boast many beautiful colors including white, cream to golden and even black. That is perhaps why many jewellery collectors go for a cultured akoya pearl necklace.

But Mabe Pearls ring a whole new look
Mabe pearls are dome-shaped that are grown along the inside shell of the oyster rather than inside the body of the oyster. The Mabe pearls are cultured in many South Pacific countries including Australia, Japan, French Polynesia and Indonesia. The larger cultured mabe pearls are more affordable than the traditional round pearls, but offer the same luster and mezmorizing qualities. These beautiful pearls comes in a variety of colors ranging from white to blue. They are often used in ring jewelry, earrings and pendants because of their large ‘surface area’, ranging typically between 10mm to 18mm. If you are considering a Mabe Pearl, ensure you carefully the luster. Just because they are somewhat cheaper than the round pearls, you do not have to compromise on quality. Compare the unique designs and shear beauty here.
No matter what type of pearl or look you actually prefer, they all off one thing: mezmorising beauty when combined with the right apparel.

Allegedly there’s legal action being taken against Kate Hudson and David Babaii, her hair stylist-guru-to-the-stars, in the Superior Court of Los Angelos, over a verbal agreement with 220 Laboratories. The Laboratories allege that Hudson and Babaii have committed fraud, misappropriated trade secrets, are in breach of confidence and contract, plus up to 13 other midemeanours.

The secret ingredient to the new line of hair products, which is about to transform the hairdressing world, is black volcanic ash, from the remote tropical island of Tanna, in Vanuatu, in the South Pacific.

Researchers recently discovered that the average woman uses 176 different types of chemicals on her body, in her daily beauty schedule. The use of volcanic ash is part of the world wide drive to use more natural products.

This is not the first time volcanic ash has been used in health care of the body. The Volcanic Earth, based in Vanuatu, sells the best beauty tips from Vanuatu, an exclusive exfoliating ‘Ash Power’ body scrub, produced from fine crystals of sugar and volcanic ash. The scrub has the same color as fertile black soil. It has the feel of fine granulated sugar being rubbed on the skin. The exfoliating action is produced by chafing the grains back and forth, scrubbing away dead cells of skin. After a few minutes of scrubbing, the grains melt away in lightly fragrant, moisturizing foam.

A user of the volcanic ash product described it as, “A bit like dying your own hair. The stuff is as black as squid ink and gets everywhere you don’t really want it to be. The face cloth I used to remove it in the shower will never recover. I’m glad we have a handheld shower so I could quickly hose the splatters from the grout. My husband would have killed me.”

The rich mineral, oil absorbing volcanic ash includes sulphur. This has been used for generations to manage a wide variety of skin conditions. The volcanic products are said to detoxify and restore life energy through the ancient minerals.

You can now purchase an Ash Thermal Mask, or an Exfoliation Scrub and even a Prep & Prime lip refinisher, used as a base for lipstick, all made with volcanic ash. According to Kate Hudson and her partner you can now also control fly away hair.

It is incredible what pulverized rock and cooled molten glass, produced by violent volcanic eruptions, can do. The locals in Tanna may be burning away their fortune, as they collect the ash, instead of wood, to use on their fires to cook their meal. Particularly since the area has been stripped bare by the action of the volcanic ash. I’m sure when it comes to the end result; however, there will be a dispute of who owns the precious ash, which liberally litters the plain around the base of Mt Yassur, turning the landscape into a wild scene from a science-fiction movie?

There is an additional valuable use for the ash, which only nature can manipulate. When high intensity of volcanic ash is erupted into the air, as was experienced in 1991 after the Mt Pinatubo eruption, there was a universal cooling effect. The ash can remain suspended for days and sometimes even up to years, cooling the earth by screening the sun. I wonder if anyone has thought that a string of volcanic eruptions could be the answer to the world’s crisis of global warming. Will nature come to our rescue?

A couple without cellphones is more connected than a couple *with* cellphones

Looking back on some old photos from 40-50 years ago, I was struck by how visible the differences were between the culture of then, versus the culture of now. In some cases, it was evident from the things people wore, or carried, or did, back then which they no longer do today. But sometimes it was the opposite: things that didn’t exist back in the 1960s and 1970s have become a pervasive part of today’s culture.

A good example is the cellphone: 20 years ago, it simply didn’t exist. Even ten years ago, it was a relatively uncommon sight, and usually only on major streets of big cities. Today, of course, cell phones are everywhere, and everyone is using them in a variety of culture contexts.

However, I don’t think this is a permanent phenomenon; after all, if you think back to the early 1980s, you probably would have seen a lot of people carrying Sony Walkmans, or "boom-box" portable radios — all of which have disappeared…

If Moore’s Law (which basically says that computers double in power every 18 months) holds up for another decade, then we’ll have computerized gadgets approximately 100 times smaller, faster, cheaper, and better — which means far better integration of music, camera, messaging, and phone, but also the possibility of the devices being so tiny that they’re embedded into our eyeglasses, our earrings, or a tattoo on our forehead.

So the point of this album is to provide a frame of reference — so that we can (hopefully) look back 10-20 years from now, and say, "Wasn’t it really weird that we behaved in such bizarre ways while we interacted with those primitive devices?"

Note: this photo was published, cropped down to just the couple on the left, in a Nov 6, 2009 blog titled "Salesman Calling!: Where People Answer Their Cell Phones." It was also published in a Nov 25, 2009 blog with the same title as the one I put on the Flickr image, i.e., "A couple without cellphones is more connected than a couple *with* cellphones." It was also published in a Dec 3, 2009 blog titled "Which is best? Who knows?"

Moving into 2010, the photo was published in an Apr 26, 2010 blog titled "Cellphone: go prepaid or contract?" And it was published in an Aug 26, 2010 blog titled "What’s So Wrong With Facebook Places?

We *really* don’t pay attention to crazy old guys with a camera when we’re concentrating on our cellphone messages

This woman was walking up Broadway, at 81st Street. I think I could have walked right into her, and knocked her flat on the ground, before she would have noticed me…

Note: this photo was published in a Jun 23, 2010 "Technologeek blog, with the same title as the caption I used on this Flickr page. And it was published in an Aug 26, 2010 blog titled "What’s So Wrong With Facebook Places?", as well as an Aug 26, 2010 blog titled "Three mobile web marketing tips for the holiday shopping season."
