The sun, the soft sand sifting through your toes and fingers,
the salty wind blowing in from the sea, the sound of waves…the
ultimate holiday and vacation! If you’re like everyone else in
this world, you should be looking for some of the top beaches in
the world. And lucky for you, we have done the research on the
world’s most popular beaches and have listed them here for you
in no particular order.

The first one is Poipu Beach, Hawaii. If you believe in
Paradise, this is it. In terms of a beach, this is definitely a
world-class beach and should not be missed. Absolutely
breathtaking! Poipu Beach is recently named America’s top beach
by The Travel Channel with the most extensive golden sand and
provides a host of activities for travelers and beach-lovers.

The second on the list is Matira Beach, also another
not-to-be-missed beach! Matira Beach is one of those magical
islands of Bora Bora that makes up French Polynesia in the South
Pacific. Long and lazy stretches of beach with whispering shores
is what you can expect from Matira Beach. In fact, Matira Beach
is as magical and enchanting as it comes. It’s not called the
world’s most romantic beach for nothing. People flock to Matira
Beach to make proposals – imagine that!

Just when you thought there is nothing more to Mexico but
Tequila and snakes, in comes Maroma Beach. Maroma Beach is more
like a holiday resort getaway destination offering a combination
of luxurious resorts and spas; and 500 acres of beach and rain
forest.

Next on the list of top ten beaches are Pink Sands and South
Sands – nestled on the edges of Salcombe. A contending beach
would be the Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro. The beaches are
filled with beach-goers almost all year round and who can blame
them? Inexpensive accommodation and traveling makes these
beaches the top few beaches in the world!

If you’re hooked on surfing, don’t forget to drop by Biarritz
Beach on a holiday. It’s an absolute haven for surfers with 2
large beaches and a myriad of smaller beaches in between. And
France also offers holiday-goers and beach-lovers a gem of a
beach in the form of the St. Tropez beach. Who doesn’t know that
St. Tropez is well known for its bikinis and beachwear
groundbreaking fashion rules? St. Tropez is a hot favorite among
Hollywood stars and is nestled along the French Riveria. It pays
that St. Tropez beach is also a short drive from Nice and Cannes.

Coming up next is the Clifton Beach on Cape Town, South Africa.
One of the most amazing sceneries can be found there. Imagine
enjoying the beach with the gorgeous Table Mountain as a
backdrop. There’s never anything quite like that on a beach. And
if you’re looking for a natural and exotic beach, you might want
to try out Anse de Argent beach in Seychelles. For
nature-lovers, Anse de Argent is heaven!

Emenogu, World Number Four, Eyes Wbc Crown

Edit Article |

]]>

KING Davidson Emenogu is one of Nigeria’s success stories that are hardly told because of the circumstances surrounding his feats.

Abandoned by his country and adopted by Australia, Emenogu has risen to become the International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) South Pacific light middleweight champion. He is also the current number four fighter in both the IBF and WBO in the light middleweight category.

Now, he dreams of becoming the first Nigerian (albeit Australian) world champion after Samuel Peter and his stars are shinning brightly right now. But this is a great turnaround for a boxer, who was written off as a spent force by boxing managers in Nigeria.

As an amateur, Emenogu, whose father was also a great boxer from the 70s up till the early 90s, showed so much promise in the sport that boxing fans saw in him another hero. But instead of getting the required push to take him to the next level, Emenogu saw himself stagnating in a country hat has produced so many great fighters.

He was one of the athletes that represented the country during the All Africa Games, otherwise referred to as COJA, held in Abuja in 2003, where he won gold medal. Before then, he won bronze medal for Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2000 and also took part in the Melbourne Games in 2006, where he narrowly missed out of the medal zone.

But his journey to stardom started immediately after the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Rather than join his mates on the return flight to Nigeria after the Games, he reasoned that his destiny was in his hands, hence he decided to remain in Australia to hone his skills. That decision proved golden because, four years after that, he has won two of the most prestigious titles in boxing and his flight seems destined for the summit of the game.

Speaking to The Guardian at Prophet T.B Joshua’s Synagogue Church in Lagos over the weekend, King Emenogu said he was building up for his shot at the world title, which chance he added had been given to him. He said: “I am going to embark on a training tour of Britain and Germany. I will be using the tour to prepare for my title fight in May in Tokyo, Japan. I will be contending for the Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) title with a Japanese.

“Thereafter, I will go for the world title fight, which will be staged in the United States of America.”

Emenogu, who revealed that he would head back to Australia this week, added: “This is the chance I have been waiting for because I know that I am the best light middleweight in the trade. I am going to fight in April just to keep fit, I will go to Germany and U.S. for training and in May I will be fighting the Pacific champion in Tokyo, Japan.

“I was supposed to fight before now but the match was postponed because my opponent had an injury. When I get the title by the grace of God, which I believe I am going to win, I will be heading for my world title in America June/July.”

Now that he is at the brink of conquering the world, does he plan to contribute his quota to Nigeria’s boxing development? Emenogu, who is sad at the state of the sport in the country, says he would try his bit to champion the resuscitation of the game. He said: “At the moment, I can say that boxing is dead in Nigeria. Each time I visit home, I wonder what truly is wrong with our system.

“As I speak to you today, there are no boxing equipment in the country; athletes are not exposed to international competitions, and unfortunately too, some of our sports administrators have not helped the situation. But, most importantly, lack of funds has also taken a toll on the development of the game in the country.

“After the fight in June, I will come back home to see what I can do for our boxers. We have talented fighters in this country but they need the push to succeed. It is not an easy sport but with the required support I know some of the boys will prove as successful as their peers from other countries.”

On what it will take to arrest the slide in the fortunes of boxing in Nigeria, Emenogu suggests: “We need to be sincere to ourselves. First of all, we have to change the attitude of the athletes’ and we also have to make them believe first and foremost in Nigeria and then, themselves.

“These are the fundamental issues. We need to provide them with the necessary equipment they need to distinguish themselves at international championships. This is because boxing bags and gloves alone don’t win fights. I know what I experienced when I was in Nigeria, one we don’t have good equipment; we only have boxing bags and how would that win the tournament?

“They need to take these boys out. Since I came to Nigeria they have not gone for any competition, which is very bad. If they want boxing to go up in Nigeria they need training and spiritual backing, they need to get equipment, set up big gyms and take them to training tours over seas.”

Emenogu craves for an opportunity to advise the country’s sports administrators on how they can prop up the sport: “If given the opportunity, I will give back to Nigeria for the opportunity I was given to be in the national team,” he said.

“If they are ready to support boxing financially, I am ready to help bring foreign coaches and import equipment to this country and set up a big gym. We have people who can do it in Nigeria. We have coaches here; my dad is still there in Bauchi State training the state’s team. Obisia Nwankpa is there, Roland Omoruyi, Samson Aransiola and Isaac Ikhuoria are all there.

“If they join heads, with strong financial backing and with the kind of support and equipment that I am going to bring from overseas, we are going to make boxing stand again.”

Emenogu, who credits Prophet T.B Joshua with the spiritual guidance that has seen him to the top of his sport, said he was in Lagos to thank the man of God for helping him during his trying times. He added: “From the outset, Prophet T.B Joshua has been supporting and encouraging me. He has been praying for me and has supported me financially and has also predicted that I would become a world champion.

“When those that took us to Australia for the Commonwealth Games gave us no hope in the competition, when they said I was too old to continue boxing, I believed in the power in the blood of Jesus and what the man of God said, that it is well with me.

“I am a happy man because God used Prophet T.B Joshua to touch my life and today my record stands as an undefeated fighter. Before I went for my first title shot in Australia, the prophet prayed for me and told me that I would win.

“Prophet Joshua has fulfilled his promise to support me financially and spiritually until I achieve my dream in life. Now that I have a crucial battle ahead of me, I just cannot help but come to thank him.”

Cruise Vacations: Alluring Destinations Around the World

]]>

There has never been a better time to hit the high seas for a cruise vacation. An estimated 18.4 million passengers will be cruising the world’s waters in 2010 in search of a remarkable vacation.

According to Cruise Market Watch, the worldwide cruise capacity is up almost 7 percent in 2010, as cruise lines add new ships to boost their lines. And with the additional space, some cruise lines are offering value pricing so the new space and the existing spaces are booked.

There are plenty of short-range cruises available for a quick getaway:

A three-night cruise to the Bahamas for just 9. You’ll see Miami, Fla., Nassau and Norwegian Private Island.

Or maybe you would like a five-night cruise to the Western Caribbean, starting in Miami and traveling to Ocho Rios and the Grand Cayman – all for 9 per adult passenger.

Or for 9 per adult passenger, go the other direction toward the Eastern Caribbean for a seven-night cruise to Miami, Samana, St. Thomas, Tortola and Great Stirrup Cay.

Or, if you want to start on the West Coast, consider a seven-day cruise from Los Angeles, Calif., to Mexico. For 9 per adult passenger, you can enjoy stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas and then back to Los Angeles.

These cruises offer just a taste of the quick-trips available from U.S. ports of call. There are plenty of other ventures on both sides of the coast to experience. But with cruising so hot this year, this may be the time to try a trip that’s a bit more alluring – someplace off the Caribbean track.

How about a seven-night cruise to Australia and New Zealand for just 9 per adult passenger. You start in Sydney, Australia, and will continue on to Noumea and Isle of Pines, both islands making up New Caledonia.

Starting for around ,000 per person, you can take a 12-day cruise to Latin America and see sites you’ve only heard about in an atlas. The trip starts in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and includes Montevideo, Urugyay; Falkland Islands; a sail by Cape Horn, a stop in Ushuaia, Argentina; a cruising tour of Romanche & Alemania glaciers and the Cockburn & Beagle Channels; a stop in Punta Arenas; passage through the Strait of Magellan; a cruise through the Amalia Glacier Canal and passage through the Darwin Channel Chilean Fjords. The trip concludes in Santiago, Chile.

Want to go the Far East? How about a five-night cruise of Asia, starting at ,045 a person. You will start in Hong Kong, China; travel on to Sanya, China; and then head onto Hue and Hanoi, Vietnam; before ending back up in Hong Kong.

Got dreams of seeing the South Pacific? Consider the ,595 10-day South Pacific cruise. It will take you to places most people only read about: Tahiti, Rangiroa and Bora Bora – all in French Polynesian.

Ever dreamed of seeing the Grecian Isles? What better way than on a seven-night European-Mediterranean cruise for just 9 a person. The adventure starts in Venice and onto Bari, Italy. From there, the ship sails on to the Greek isles of Katakolon, Santorini, Mykonos and Rhodes. Last stop is Dubrovnik, a hugely popular tourist city on the Adriatic Sea.

Want to get off the high seas? Consider a 9 per person, four-day cruise of the Avalon Waterways. You will start your river cruise in Vienna and follow on to Melk-Dürnstein in Austria; Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia; and finish the tour in Budapest, Hungary.

For a trip you’ll never forget, spend 10 days exploring Egypt and the treasures of the Nile. Start by spending three days in Cairo, exploring the Kingdom of the Pharaohs, King Tutankhamen’s treasures, the Sphinx and the Great Pyramids of Giza. From there, you will fly to Aswan where you will embark on a four-night cruise of the Nile River where you can experience temples dedicated to crocodiles and falcon gods and the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens where 62 royal tombs have been unearthed, leaving many untouched. Conclude your adventure with a visit to Karnak, ancient Egypt’s greatest city. You will wind up back in Cairo in time to take in an evening of modern entertainment or rest up for the flight home the next day. The cost for all this is ,211 per passenger.

Now that you have an idea of the tame and the more adventurous offerings, you need to take these into consideration when selecting your cruise:

Is it an all-adult trip, or will you have to worry about little children? Older children will enjoy some of the historical sites more than their younger counterparts.

Does vacation time allow for a 12-day cruise? Or might a four-night quick getaway suffice for this year’s getaway?

Is one of these trips on you bucket list? If so, start there. The others will have to wait.

With a cruise vacation it is now more possible than ever to explore some of the most gorgeous and exotic locations across the globe. From the rivers of Europe to the islands of the South Pacific, the only restriction on where you can go is an accessible waterway.

The great thing about a cruise is that all the planning is done for you. There is no need to book multiple hotels and arrange for transportation between destinations because your transportation is your hotel!

Here are a few ideas for exciting cruises to beautiful places. Don’t be afraid to consider something that is a little off the beaten path. You never know what you might find there.

1. Australia/New Zealand Cruise

This exciting cruise departs from Sydney and sets sail off into the Pacific. One of the exciting features of this trip is a stop at the gorgeous Isle of Pines. This New Caledonian island is often called “l’ile la plus proche du paradis” which translates to “the closest island to paradise.” The Isle of Pines is primarily famous for the great snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities in its pristine lagoon.

Another destination on this tour is the capital city of New Caledonia, Noumea. This often-overlooked city has more days of sunshine than any other Pacific Island capital. This works out great because of all the city’s fantastic beaches! This cruise is a great way to see some gorgeous places that you probably never heard of before.

2. Europe/North Sea

Many European cruises take advantage of the waters of the Mediterranean, but this cruise departs from London and explores the cities of the North Sea!

After a stop in Brussels, you will set sail to Copenhagen, the capital and largest city of Denmark. This gorgeous and historical city has one of the best quality of life ratings of any city in the world. It is also incredibly environmentally friendly. Over a third of the city’s residents commute to work by bike and the water in the harbor is so clean you can swim in it!

This cruise also has stops in Helsinborg, Sweden and Oslo, Norway. It is truly an unbelievable opportunity to explore the diverse cities and people of the North Sea.

3. Europe/Mediterranean Cruise

Of course if you haven’t gone on a cruise of the Mediterranean, you should know that it is popular for a reason. The waters, sights, and people of the Mediterranean Sea are unlike anywhere else in the world.

This particular cruise leaves Malaga, Spain and has its first stop in the city of Ajaccio, Corsica. As the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, this city is rich in history and ready to be explored.

Next it is off to the southern coast of France, specifically the Provence region. This area is renowned for its mild climate, music, food and wine. This short cruise packs in a great deal of beauty, history, and culture.

4. Mexican Riviera Cruise

Cruises of the Caribbean parts of Mexico are common, but vacationers are just now starting to rediscover the Pacific coast of Mexico. This cruise leaves San Diego and explores the Mexican Riviera.

One of the most exciting stops on this trip is the Mexican city of Mazatlan. The waters off the coast of this tropical city are renowned as amazing sport fishing territory. The city itself is a haven for cultural exploration.

There is a booming classical music scene and the main through street, the Calle Constitucion, is closed in the evenings on the weekends. This is so that natives and tourists alike can explore the arts, cuisine, and nightlife of the city center.

5. Alaska Cruise

Cruises of the Alaskan coast are a great way to see some gorgeous scenery. As a special treat, this cruise skirts the coast of the Hubbard Glacier, the longest tidewater glacier in Alaska.

The Alaskan town of Sitka is another highlight of the trip. Kayaking day trips are offered and they are a great way to get a closer look at Alaska’s dynamic coastline. Hiking trails are also abundant near Sitka. If you are looking for a cruise that is rife with outdoor opportunities, then you can’t go wrong with an Alaskan tour.

6. Asia Cruise

Cruises throughout the Indian Ocean are also becoming more popular. This cruise leaves Hong Kong and has its first stop at the island city of Sanya. This town has gorgeous tropical beaches and is actually the training ground for China’s beach volleyball team.

The town itself is full of exciting things to do and see. There is a butterfly museum, a shell aquarium, and an amazing 108-meter statue of Guan Yin. It is one of the tallest statues in the world and it took six years to complete. Sanya and the other destinations on this trip have ample opportunities for either relaxation or exploration.

7. Southern Caribbean Cruise

With more and more people discovering the joys of a cruise vacation, the number of destinations is growing as well. Even though the Caribbean has always been a big area for cruises, cruise companies are now branching off to explore new destinations within the Caribbean.

Castries, the capital of Saint Lucia, is one town that has greatly benefited from the tourism boom. When your ship docks there are taxis readily available to take you on tours of the city. You can even tour it on a water taxi! One of the most exciting sites in Castries is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. It is the largest church in the Caribbean and a can’t miss on this trip!

The world is full of beautiful places, interesting people, and fascinating cultures. A cruise isn’t the only way to explore the world, but it is one of the easiest and most exciting ways to see places you’ve only dreamed of.

Andrew Ingersoll: World Traveler and Amateur Photographer Extraordinaire

Andrew Ingersoll is well known to readers of Rick Ingersoll’s popular blog, The Frugal Travel Guy, for the images of people, places and cultures he’s captured around the world. At age 29, Andrew has already visited 47 countries and, armed with all the free and frugal travel techniques he’s learned from his father, he’s not about to stop.

“The tips I’ve picked up from ‘Pops’ have allowed me to continue traveling at reasonable prices and to share my experiences through my photography,” Andrew said recently.

Rick Ingersoll is a retired mortgage banker who became a “travel hacker” as a hobby so that he and his wife, Katy, could spend his retirement years traveling the globe. He began blogging about his tips and techniques for gathering frequent flier miles and other free-travel techniques in 2007 (his current “bankroll” of frequent flier miles is up to 1.5 million) and authored the book The Frequent Flier Guy Handbook in 2010. The hobby became a business as readership grew and the travel industry began advertising on it.

It wasn’t long before Rick’s entire family joined “the game,” as he calls it — including Andrew, who quickly learned that “the world is a fascinating place, and I want to be able to share some of its glories with others who are not able to pick up and go.”

He uses his photography to do that – photography whose quality defies Andrew’s “amateur” status.

“It would be great if I could inspire others to travel through my photos,” he said. “Traveling and experiencing cultures and customs opens up minds and challenges the ignorance and prejudices portrayed by the media.”

Growing up in Traverse City, Michigan, Andrew graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Nursing degree in 2004. He started traveling to Europe in holidays and during summer breaks while he was in school.

“That’s when I discovered that the world was so much larger than white, middle class America,” said the slim, sandy-haired photographer who is currently ensconced in Antarctica. “This inspired me to absorb as much from other countries and cultures as possible.”

Andrew began his photographic journal with a “point and shoot digital camera,” he said, and picked up a Nikon Coolpix in a Malaysian market, “mostly because the price was right.” But when he made the decision to visit all seven continents before he turned 30, he knew an upgrade was in order.

“I got a great deal on a Nikon D5000 at Costco this last December and Antarctica was my trial backdrop.”

He moved to Seattle, Washington, after he graduated from Michigan State. “It was at this time when we, as a family, started discovering the true benefits of frequent flier miles,” he said. “My first trip to Asia was on a United Mileage Plus reward ticket that took me from Seattle to Tokyo to Singapore. My eyes were now fixated on cultures so different from Northern Michigan, I was hooked. And to this day, I love Asian culture.”

On a 28-day Intrepid Tour of Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia, Andrew met an Australian man who gave him the idea of pursuing a postgraduate degree overseas.

“When I returned to Seattle, I found the Masters of International Public Health program at the University of Sydney,” he said. “Calculating the cost benefit analysis of attending a university in Australia versus America, I was ready to jump ship. I made the commitment to pursue Australia, but not without ticking off one of the things on my ‘bucket list’ first.”

Andrew’s “bucket list” – which he insists he made long before the movie “The Bucket List” came out — was actually a Top 25 list that a friend suggested he make. She could see he was struggling with what direction to go in his life after he’d received his undergraduate degree.

“So she had me jot down the top 25 experiences I wanted out of life,” he recalled. “I still have that list today.”

The list inspired him to join a medical mission to Mali, West Africa, where he worked alongside local Malian doctors and nurses at a hospital for women and children. His job was part of a relief team that assisted local staff with high-risk childbirth.

“Again, my eyes were opened and my mind raced. I was so grateful for the opportunities I had been granted,” he said. “So after some very emotional times in Mali with some of the most amazing people, I joined another Intrepid tour to spend 15 days in Morocco. That was my first taste of Arabic and Muslim culture. And I wanted to experience it as unbiased as possible.”

In February 2008, Andrew moved to Sydney, Australia, where he received his MIPH degree and occasionally worked as an evacuation and repatriation nurse — nurses who bring sick and injured people to Australia from South Pacific islands for treatment they couldn’t receive otherwise.

“This is great fun and very rewarding — flying off into the South Pacific to pick up someone and bring him or her to Australia for treatment,” he said. “I’ve gone to New Caledonia, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Kirabati, Tahiti, Norfolk Island, Tonga and Vanuatu.”

Andrew is now working part time in clinical research before he begins pursuing a Juris Doctor degree at the University of New South Wales in February, a three-year postgraduate law degree designed for professionals entering into a career in law.

“I’m confident The Frugal Travel Guy blog will continue to provide me with the necessary tools to allow me to fulfill my personal goals of travel,” he said.

What’s next on his agenda? “Caving in Malaysian Borneo and camper-van travel in New Zealand,” he said. “And I’m still in the planning process of visiting the Great Wall of China with dear old Dad.”

Also on his wish list: Nepal, Ghana, Bolivia, Mongolia, Croatia, and Maldives. No one doubts that he’ll fulfill his wishes, least of all his father.

“I wish I had the courage to undertake some of the adventures Andrew has been on,” Rick said. “Not only does he see the world at prices he can afford, he does it at times in the most basic of native accommodations. He really gets in the culture more than I have ever been capable of. I’m just a tourist when I compare my travels to Andrew’s. He is a true world traveler.”

Andrew posts his travel photos and humorous commentary on The Frugal Travel Guy blog every Wednesday and Sunday. To see an archive of his posts, visit The Frugal Travel Guy.

Und doch versteckt sich hier das Verwaltungszentrum der Insel mit Postamt, Kirchlein und Museum.
