Top 5 Cruise Destinations for 2011

Cruising is a great way to cover lots of ground on an international trip without having to worry about logistical details like transportation and lodging. You can get almost anywhere in the world on a cruise ship, even frozen Antarctica. As long as the country in question has a coastline, odds are high that at least one cruise line will make a stop there. The following destinations are all great options for cruises in 2011:

The Caribbean– Ease of access makes the Caribbean one of the most-booked cruise itineraries. According to the luxury travel experts at Virtuoso, 44.65 of the company’s member travel agents named it as their most popular itinerary. The Caribbean offers stunning, gorgeous scenery and beaches that are still close to home for US passengers. Plus, passport requirements are less strict for some Caribbean cruises than they are for cruises to other parts of the world.

The Greek Isles – Stunning beaches and archaeological treasures make the Greek Isles an excellent place to cruise. The country’s recent financial woes mean that days in port will cost less, too.

The South Pacific- South Pacific itineraries include tropical Gardens of Eden like Hawaii and Tahiti. Add in delicious exotic food and excellent snorkeling and diving, and it’s easy to see why a South Pacific cruise is such an attractive option.

The Mediterranean- Virtuoso’s survey revealed that the Mediterranean was the most commonly booked cruise ship itinerary in 2011 among member travel agents, with 74.42 percent naming it as the most popular cruising destination for the upcoming year.

Southeast Asia – For a completely different experience, consider a Southeast Asian cruise that runs from Singapore to Hong Kong. In between, you’ll stop in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

When you book a cruise, it’s important to make sure that you have the right documents. For most itineraries, you will need a passport book. The only possible exception is a cruise to Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean. These countries fall under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. If you’re taking a cruise to a country covered by the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative that begins and ends at the same US port, you can use your driver’s license and a birth certificate instead of a passport.

However, if you’re cruising anywhere else, you must have a passport. Passport applications take about 6 weeks to process, with expedited applications taking around 3 weeks. For faster service, you can either make an appointment at a regional passport agency or use a private expediter like RushMyPassport.

Planning your First Cruise

Planning your first holiday especially on a cruise liner is always a challenge. You could get together with your family and friends and discuss your travel and vacation plans so as to get a better idea of what needs to be done. The best way is to book with a travel agent who will not only advice you on which cruise liner and destination you should be going to but also plan your entire itinerary including air travel to the port of embarkation. But before you proceed, let’s first answer some questions that are bound to pop up while planning your cruise.

What kind of cruise is suitable for your age group?

Typically, there are different kinds of cruises suitable for different age groups. You will find a cruise designed for all individuals, from the toddler to the teen to the retired. All you need to decide in who is going and then select the cruise best suited for you. There are fun-filled holiday cruises for the family, singles, newly-weds and even for the slightly older and matured.

What kind of budget are you on?

Typically, the minimum cost of per person per day is about 0 on an average cruise liner. Many ships charge extra for certain items and of course air-fare is not included in this. You can decrease the cost somewhat by sharing the cabin with another person, booking way in advance, like almost six months prior, or taking a risk and booking late, less than two months prior to departure.

How many days can you spend on your cruise?

If you have less than a week, then the options would be closer to home and restricted to Mexico, Bahamas or simply a weekend cruise to a port in the ocean and back. A complete week gives you more time and options range from the Caribbean, Europe, Hawaii, Alaska and even the South Pacific, depending on of course your current residential location. Anything longer than that would be suitable for any kind of cruise vacation across the globe.

When would you be most likely to travel?

Obviously, cruise tickets are cheaper in leaner times like spring or fall and most expensive during the summer holidays. Winter is also considered high season when travelling to warmer locations like the Caribbean. Some locations like Alaska, Scandinavia and the Baltic have a shorter cruising season and will be open only between May and September. While Antarctic cruises are on between November and February, Mediterranean cruises can be taken all year round.

Where would you like to go?

With the earth being covered with 75% ocean, cruise ships today can reach any of the continents and traverse all across the globe. From the Americas to Austral-Asia, Africa to Antarctica, Bahamas to Bermuda, Europe to Canada, there are plenty of cruise destinations to choose from. Even land locked locations such as central Europe, Russia, or the Yangtze River in China can be reached on a river cruise. Always a challenge to decide your destination, it is important to keep all other factors like type of cruise, budget, length of vacation among others in mind.

What are your interests?

Although cruises provide all kinds of on board activities, your destination should be based on your interest. While European tours offer a good dose of culture for the history buffs, tropical destinations like the Caribbean and the South Pacific are for the beach lovers. Whether it is glacier watching in Alaska, deep sea diving in Australia or experiencing the fjords in Norway, you have to decide what you like to do best before you choose your cruise destination. Many cruises also offer a list of off-shore activities before you book, so make sure that you are well researched on that as well.

What kind of accommodation would you prefer?

Cabin selection typically depends on what your budget is. Sea view cabins are obviously more expensive than the lower deck ones. Also, if you are travelling to scenic places like Alaska or Scandinavia it would be preferable to have a view. Deck plans are available in hard copy, so make your decision after doing your homework and planning your budget.

What are your dress styles and eating habits?

In a move away from only formal wear, most cruise ships today are more relaxed and have only one or two nights of dress-up nights. The rest of the time, it is usually casual or country club style dressing. Typically there are two seating arrangements for dinner, one starting at 6:30pm and the other starting at 9:00pm. While early seating allows you plenty of time for late shows, it may rush your off shore excursions. Late seating on the other hand gives you time to relax but may hamper your late evening activities. Also, table seating is usually for four to eight persons and very rarely for two. If you do want a dinner for the twosome, you will have to make a prior request.

How do you get to the cruise ship?

Flying there or driving down if its close by are two of the most preferred options. Sometimes the cruise lines offer you a fly-cruise package, which is easier, but may be a trifle expensive than independent booking. These include transfers between the ship and the airport, which can again add up to the cost.

What are the documents needed?

Cruise vouchers and travel itineraries should typically reach you 2-3 weeks prior to your departure. Travel insurance is not mandatory but strongly advised as a carry along document in case of any mishaps. Passports are needed for all international destinations.

How to Research and Book a Cruise Vacation

Edit Article |

]]>

If you’re planning a cruise, there are eight key questions you need to ask yourself before you even begin to book. Keep reading to learn what these eight questions are and how to research and book the best cruise vacation for you.

1. Who’s Going?

Depending on the age of your travelers and whether you’re planning a romantic getaway or a family fun free-for-all is going to have a defining impact on the type of cruise you choose.

By determining well in advance who will be going, you can really narrow down the choices.

2. What’s Your Budget?

Setting a budget in advance will help you plan how much you spend and the type of cruise vacation that you can afford. A typical cruise vacation costs about 0-0 per day per person, excluding airfare. If your budget only allows a cruise on the lower end of the expense spectrum, this will eliminate many available options and likely make your search process faster.

Booking early, booking last minute or being willing to take an inside cabin are ways you can save money on your cruise. Inside cabins do not have a window view of the ocean.

3. How Much Time do You Have?

Knowing how much vacation you have will help you narrow down your cruise choices. For example, if you only have 5 vacation days available, you won’t be indulging in that 3-week adventure up the coast of East Africa.

Typically, a week’s vacation allows for a solid 5-7 day cruise in the Caribbean. It can also work depending where you are in North America, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and even the South Pacific.

On the other hand, a 3 or 4 day cruise will likely only allow for one stop on land. If you love your time on the ship, however, you may not care.

4. When Do You Want to Travel?

Having a rough idea of when you want to go will help you focus on specific sailing times and even destinations. For example, Alaska cruises only operate during the five summer months. And if time in the water is important to you, traveling during the warmer months will be more enjoyable.

5. Where Do You Want to Go?

From Africa to the Caribbean to the South Pacific, cruises travel all over the world. If you know, for example, you want to explore the cities of the Mediterranean, you’ll be able to focus your search on Mediterranean cruises.

6. What Activities Do You Like?

For every taste, there’s a cruise ship that caters to it. From wine tasters to extreme athletes, there are cruises designed specifically for you – you just have to determine your interest.

7. Do You Like Structure?

Some cruise ships have set dining times, ranging from as early as 6:00 p.m. to as late as 9:00 p.m. Others offer freestyle service which allows you to eat when you please.

8. Do You Enjoy Formal Wear?

Before you book a luxury cruise that offers formal dining every night, ask yourself if you’re ready to pack your tuxedo. Whether you want to dress up for dinner every night, just a few nights or not at all, there’s a cruise for you. Just be sure to research your options before you purchase.

Even though Juanita Hall sang in close to 900 performances of “South Pacific” on Broadway, according to vocal arranger Ken Darby her voice had taken on a much heavier tone by 1957 and she was having trouble sustaining high notes. Music director Alfred Newman thought that it was unnecessary to dub her and asked Ken to work with Hall on smoothing out her voice to a level and vocal style that Richard Rodgers would approve. By the time of the recording sessions she was singing better than she had in the original 1949 stage production, but even though she achieved a vocal quality closer to what Rodgers preferred, Rodgers was enamored with and always preferred Muriel Smith’s voice (Smith played Bloody Mary in the London production). It was at his insistence that Hall’s vocals were dubbed. No prerecordings were ever made of Hall since by the time of the recording sessions it had already been decided that she would be dubbed. Hall was a good sport about it and was grateful to have the opportunity to preserve her Tony Award-winning performance as Bloody Mary in the film. Ken Darby said that she was one of the nicest and hardest working performers with whom he was ever privileged to work. Director Joshua Logan, in his book “Movie Stars, Real People, and Me” wrote: “Juanita Hall had her own style of singing and it seemed a shame to miss its special quality in our picture. Still, they were the experts on music and, more than that, my bosses, so in spite of my misgivings, I was forced

Cruise Vacations: Alluring Destinations Around the World

There has never been a better time to hit the high seas for a cruise vacation. An estimated 18.4 million passengers will be cruising the world’s waters in 2010 in search of a remarkable vacation.

According to Cruise Market Watch, the worldwide cruise capacity is up almost 7 percent in 2010, as cruise lines add new ships to boost their lines. And with the additional space, some cruise lines are offering value pricing so the new space and the existing spaces are booked.

There are plenty of short-range cruises available for a quick getaway:

A three-night cruise to the Bahamas for just 9. You’ll see Miami, Fla., Nassau and Norwegian Private Island.

Or maybe you would like a five-night cruise to the Western Caribbean, starting in Miami and traveling to Ocho Rios and the Grand Cayman – all for 9 per adult passenger.

Or for 9 per adult passenger, go the other direction toward the Eastern Caribbean for a seven-night cruise to Miami, Samana, St. Thomas, Tortola and Great Stirrup Cay.

Or, if you want to start on the West Coast, consider a seven-day cruise from Los Angeles, Calif., to Mexico. For 9 per adult passenger, you can enjoy stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas and then back to Los Angeles.

These cruises offer just a taste of the quick-trips available from U.S. ports of call. There are plenty of other ventures on both sides of the coast to experience. But with cruising so hot this year, this may be the time to try a trip that’s a bit more alluring – someplace off the Caribbean track.

How about a seven-night cruise to Australia and New Zealand for just 9 per adult passenger. You start in Sydney, Australia, and will continue on to Noumea and Isle of Pines, both islands making up New Caledonia.

Starting for around ,000 per person, you can take a 12-day cruise to Latin America and see sites you’ve only heard about in an atlas. The trip starts in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and includes Montevideo, Urugyay; Falkland Islands; a sail by Cape Horn, a stop in Ushuaia, Argentina; a cruising tour of Romanche & Alemania glaciers and the Cockburn & Beagle Channels; a stop in Punta Arenas; passage through the Strait of Magellan; a cruise through the Amalia Glacier Canal and passage through the Darwin Channel Chilean Fjords. The trip concludes in Santiago, Chile.

Want to go the Far East? How about a five-night cruise of Asia, starting at ,045 a person. You will start in Hong Kong, China; travel on to Sanya, China; and then head onto Hue and Hanoi, Vietnam; before ending back up in Hong Kong.

Got dreams of seeing the South Pacific? Consider the ,595 10-day South Pacific cruise. It will take you to places most people only read about: Tahiti, Rangiroa and Bora Bora – all in French Polynesian.

Ever dreamed of seeing the Grecian Isles? What better way than on a seven-night European-Mediterranean cruise for just 9 a person. The adventure starts in Venice and onto Bari, Italy. From there, the ship sails on to the Greek isles of Katakolon, Santorini, Mykonos and Rhodes. Last stop is Dubrovnik, a hugely popular tourist city on the Adriatic Sea.

Want to get off the high seas? Consider a 9 per person, four-day cruise of the Avalon Waterways. You will start your river cruise in Vienna and follow on to Melk-Dürnstein in Austria; Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia; and finish the tour in Budapest, Hungary.

For a trip you’ll never forget, spend 10 days exploring Egypt and the treasures of the Nile. Start by spending three days in Cairo, exploring the Kingdom of the Pharaohs, King Tutankhamen’s treasures, the Sphinx and the Great Pyramids of Giza. From there, you will fly to Aswan where you will embark on a four-night cruise of the Nile River where you can experience temples dedicated to crocodiles and falcon gods and the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens where 62 royal tombs have been unearthed, leaving many untouched. Conclude your adventure with a visit to Karnak, ancient Egypt’s greatest city. You will wind up back in Cairo in time to take in an evening of modern entertainment or rest up for the flight home the next day. The cost for all this is ,211 per passenger.

Now that you have an idea of the tame and the more adventurous offerings, you need to take these into consideration when selecting your cruise:

Is it an all-adult trip, or will you have to worry about little children? Older children will enjoy some of the historical sites more than their younger counterparts.

Does vacation time allow for a 12-day cruise? Or might a four-night quick getaway suffice for this year’s getaway?

Is one of these trips on you bucket list? If so, start there. The others will have to wait.

If you’ve been dreaming of traveling abroad and experiencing some of the most beautiful and exotic destinations in the world, there’s no better choice than taking a relaxing cruise. In stark contrast to the endless lines of crabby travelers, crowded airport terminals or long hours behind the wheel that other vacation options feature, cruises let you sit back with a tropical drink in your hand as you travel effortlessly to your destination.

If you’re worried that cruising is better suited to younger travelers, think again. Although many cruise lines have recently touted family packages in order to expand business, seniors still make up a very sizable chunk of each ship’s roster of passengers. One of the most relaxing yet stimulating ways to see the world, cruises only require their guests to be young at heart.

If you’ve never been on a cruise before, a world of relaxation, fun and remarkable landscapes awaits you. Take a few moments to learn the basics of what you can expect on your future cruise and consider a few popular destinations worth looking into.

Accommodations

The first thing you’ll need to consider when finally booking your cruise is accommodations. The accommodation fee is your pass for boarding the ship and includes your quarters as well as most basic amenities, including meals. Rooms aboard cruise ships vary greatly and can match any traveler’s needs or budget.

The most lavish and spacious cabins on cruise ships are located near the top deck and on a side. They always offer large windows and sometimes even feature private balconies where you can relax and take in a Caribbean sunset or two along the way. Of course, these rooms are also the most expensive, but their cost is well worth the privacy and space you’ll enjoy.

More outgoing or budget minded travelers may opt for a more reasonable rate, which will be more in line with smaller rooms on a lower deck. The most affordable cabins aboard most ships will be located near the center and close to or below the water line, which means no windows. These rooms, however are usually the most stable and can be a great value for travelers who plan to use their rooms only for sleeping.

Activities on the Ship

Cruise ships are something like floating resort towns. As cruise lines continue to add bigger and more luxurious ships to their fleets year after year, your options for excitement, entertainment and unique experiences increase exponentially. Depending on the cruise you book, you can expect to find anything from a full sized ice skating rink to a rock climbing wall and more during your trip.

Cruise ships offer plenty of things to do for both busy bodies and travelers who would prefer to kick back and unwind. Party animals will find no good excuses to miss out on a whole daily schedule of mingling opportunities, Broadway style and quality shows, comedians, live bands, movies, casinos and more. For active guests, ships also feature fully outfitted gyms with daily classes, lots of pools and even water parks.

For the more relaxation fixated guests, top of the line spas offer soothing treatments for the body and mind while few things can beat lounging on deck with a cold drink. Couples will enjoy lots of opportunities to relax in privacy as well in several spas and hot tubs.

Activities on Shore and Destinations

Of course, the main purpose for taking a cruise is getting out and seeing the world. There are virtually as many destination possibilities offered by major cruise lines today, and your options are limited only by navigable ports. Here are a few cruise lovers’ favorites to get your ideas flowing.

Alaska

For nature lovers and adventure seekers, nothing beats the spectacular vistas and personal hands on experiences of an Alaskan cruise. In addition to taking in the amazing sights of North America’s wild western coast from the comfort of your ship, you’ll get to learn how to mush a team of sled dogs and trek across an active glacier on this trip.

The Caribbean

Perhaps the most well known of cruise destinations, the Caribbean islands offer near perfect weather, white sand beaches and warm, clear waters that are well known for their world class snorkeling and scuba diving.

Tahiti and the South Pacific

Regarded as a veritable paradise on earth, the South Pacific offers some of the most exotic landscapes and cultures you’re likely to encounter on a cruise. This amazing trip will let you experience the slow paced lifestyle of Tahiti while exploring tropical coves and secluded palm lined beaches.

Regardless of your age or disposition, cruising represents one of the most incredible, exciting and relaxing vacations available to travelers today. Take a few moments now to do some research on the cruise vacation of a lifetime.

Cruise Vacations vs. Ordinary Vacations

Cruise vacations are becoming more and more popular with each passing year. Years ago cruises were viewed as the ultimate luxury vacation, only enjoyed by the fabulously wealthy, or by cruise groups of senior citizens who had been saving for a cruise all of their lives. These days, quite the opposite is true. The cost of a seven day cruise vacation is comparable to a seven day vacation on to many other land destinations.

Get A Romantic Honeymoon – Cruise Hawaii

Millions of tourists travel to Hawaii every year. Amongst the visitors are thousands of young couples getting there or are having their honeymoon in the islands of tropical Hawaii. In order make the honeymoon even more romantic and memorable, many couples choose to go on Hawaii honeymoon cruises. There are many marriage agencies to help these couples to get married, plan their honeymoon and book cruises for them.

This pacific island state made history when Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese during world war 2. Since then many movies have re-enacted this event. Many other movies were also made about the tropical islands because of its lush tropical landscape, volcanic mountains and beautiful romantic islands.

Elvis Presley starred in perhaps the most well known romantic movie ‘Blue Hawai’. Another immensely popular movie was the musical ‘South Pacific’. All these movies presented to the world the beautiful exotic charm of the Hawaiian Islands and depict the state as a romantic holiday destination.

Given this romantic representation of Hawaii, it naturally attracts romantic couples to the Hawaiian shores. Since the state of Hawaii is made up of many pacific islands, what better way to honeymoon in Hawaii than choosing Hawaiian honeymoon cruises?

Hawaii is a paradise filled with beautiful beaches, scenic volcanoes and many other tourist attractions. The islands are located in the Pacific Ocean near Polynesia. It is the fascinating and awe inspiring natural landscape that draws millions of tourists every year.

Peak tourism months are November to March. During this time, honeymoon cruises must be booked way well in advance. This is also the peak season for surfing and whale watching making the northern shore of Oahu and Maui islands very popular for honeymooners to disembark and enjoy themselves on the island beaches.

Popular islands for visiting tourists are Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and Hawaii’s Big Island. These islands are all networked by two local airlines with inter-connections between islands. Nine in every ten visitors will visit Oahu where the famed Waikiki Beach and the state’s capital city, Honolulu resides.

It is fun to immerse yourself in the culture of the Hawaiian people. Couples can try their hands at dancing the hula hula and taking part in a luau (Hawaiian feast). If you are interested in the local culture, go and discover the uniquely blended Hawaiian, Portuguese, and Mexican cultures – still alive and celebrated among Hawaiian paniolo (cowboys) on the island’s big ranches.

If you are a history buff, do take a visit to the historical Kealakekua Bay where Captain James Cook was killed in 1779 by the islanders or Pearl Harbor, the scene of destruction by the Japanese on the navy US fleet more than half a century ago.

Thinking of going for a romantic honeymoon? Try Hawaiian honeymoon island cruises and have a memorable vacation.

Smaller Vessel Cruising With Cruise West

In spite of the economic downturn, mainstream cruising is still proving to be a solid choice for many vacationers. The year-over-year growth in bookings won’t be quite as robust this coming season, but that doesn’t mean no one will be cruising. Most cruise passengers are still drawn to the megaships that offer up the traditional itineraries like the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the Mexican Riviera and Alaska.

But if you’re looking for an alternative to traditional cruises, a brave new world awaits. By comparison, only a relative few know about specialty cruises or small ship cruising. Yet there is a growing fascination and demand for these alternative cruising experiences.

Cruise lines like Seattle-based Cruise West offers the perfect antidote to big-ship, mainstream cruises. Here is a company with a fleet of 11 vessels that range in capacity between 40 and 148 passengers. Because each ship has been designed with a shallow draft, the vessels are able to sail into coves, inlets and inland waterways the larger ships simply can’t get to.

Even when the small vessels mirror the itineraries of the larger ships, the difference is night and day. On an Alaska cruise, for instance, it’s the difference between spotting a grizzly on shore through powerful binoculars versus practically nuzzling up to the giant beast as your motor vessel pulls to within a few feet of the shoreline. This is the intimacy of the small ship cruise experience, an experience that permits an extraordinarily up-close view of scenery and wildlife, and a much more personal connection to the villages and people you’re likely to meet along the way.

In the beginning, Cruise West focused on the Pacific Northwest and Alaska but they have diversified considerably since their first cruise in 1990. Even though several vessels in their fleet still offer an Alaskan experience that is nothing short of spectacular, they have spread their wings to cover many other fascinating destinations. On the home front, they offer intriguing cruises along the Pacific Northwest’s Columbia and Snake Rivers, following in the footsteps of the great explorers, Lewis and Clark. And then there cruises for the whale-watching buffs that take in Mexico’s Sea of Cortés.

Further afield, cruises to Central America’s Panama and Costa Rica take in not only the flora and fauna of these countries brimming with the bounty of nature but also offering up opportunities to meet the indigenous Kuna Indians of Panama’s San Blais Islands.

Their flagship vessel, the Spirit of Oceanus, is an anomaly compared to the rest of their fleet. With a capacity of 120 guests, this is their first ocean-going vessel and is also their most luxurious. With fascinating itineraries that start at the Aleutian Islands at the top of the Pacific Ocean, it takes in seldom-traveled routes through Far East Russia, Japan, coastal China, and Vietnam before heading into Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia in the South Pacific. Cruises to the ultra unique Galápagos Islands and river cruises along Europe’s Danube; round out their greatly expanded repertoire of intriguing places to visit and explore.

If unique vessels and unique ports of call help define specialty cruises, one added feature helps to differentiate these kinds of cruises from the mainstream cruise vacation. That third attraction is cruise themes, and Cruise West excels at offering cruises with a special slant that will appeal to those who share a common affinity or interest. Photography cruises, for example, have become extremely popular and Cruise West has teamed up with Pentax to offer seven special itineraries where professional photographers accompany the cruise, offering their expertise and advice to seasoned and novice photographers alike.

A whole new world of pleasures and ports awaits when you sign up for a specialty cruise. So if you’re looking for something different, something quite unique for your next cruise vacation, consider a cruise on a small ship – the big alternative to big-box cruising. Why Travelers Love Princess Cruise Ships

Edit Article |

Posted: Oct 25, 2007 |Comments: 0

]]>

Princess Cruise Ships cover one of the broadest ranges of ships on the seas. From large to small, Princess has it all. But with eighteen ships to choose from in the Princess line alone, deciding which ship suits you can be quite a job.

Princess has several very popular ships that are small—at least, as compared to some of their other ships. The Pacific Princess (670 passengers), Tahitian Princess (670 passengers) and Royal Princess (710 passengers) all offer the great service of Princess Lines, but with a more intimate feel.

Princess calls these smaller ships “small ship feel, big ship experience”. The Tahitian Princess sails in the South Pacific, to Hawaii, French Polynesia, and yes, Tahiti. The Pacific Princess sails to a much broader range of destinations including Alaska, Asia, Australia and Europe. The final smaller ship, the Royal Princess, sails in southern Europe and South America.

One of the newest Princess cruise ships is also the largest. The Crown Princess, christened by Martha Stewart in June of 2006, is 951 feet long and can cruise with an amazing 3,080 passengers. She has 14 passenger decks and over 1500 rooms. Sailing primarily in the Caribbean and northern Europe, the Crown Princess lives up to her name with a putting course, an ice cream bar, and even an art auction.

Many of the larger ships offer unique activities. Princess is the only cruise line to offer three distinct age-appropriate activities for youngsters. Princess Pelicans is for the youngest set and offers t-shirt coloring and other arts and crafts, pajama parties and kids-only dinners.

Shockwaves is for the tween crowd. Scavenger hunts, movie and video games, and “Science on the Seas”, which was developed in conjunction with the California Science Center will keep this age group busy and entertained. Remix is the program developed for the teenagers on board. Remix teens get their own (alcohol-free) lounge area, evening dance parties, teen formals, and the only Teen Makeover program with skin and makeup tips.

On certain ships the offerings go even farther, with the Jr. CHEF Sea Program. Children get to go into one of the actual shipboard kitchens and prepare simple dishes. On Alaska cruises, the ships offer the Junior Ranger/Teen Explorer program which explores the delicate ecosystems of Glacier Bay and the Alaskan wilderness.

The range of activities for adults is even broader. Of course the choices vary by ship, but some possibilities include: swimming or sunning by one of the numerous pools; ScholarShip @ Sea, where you can take short classes; a well-stocked library for your reading pleasure; or the Sanctuary, an adults-only escape area with light meals and beverages, spa service, and attention to your every need.

At night there are Broadway-style shows, dancing, parties and movies. Of course there are also numerous bar and lounges where you can enjoy a drink—alcoholic or not—and the company of friends or that special someone.

No matter how much activity or relaxation you’re looking for, Princess cruise ships can undoubtedly fill the bill. Start planning your getaway today.

Cruise Deals and Destinations for Romantic Getaways

Few trips inspire romance like a cruise adventure. Maybe it’s being wined and dined around the clock, the opulent ship settings, extravagant amenities or exotic destinations that make taking a cruise such a great choice for couples. Perhaps it is the combination of all these exciting elements that make a cruise getaway the perfect vacation for couples. And the best part is that many of these romance-inspiring vacations are very budget-friendly, with many cruise companies offering amazing deals all year-long. That means it does not take a special occasion to warrant a cruise trip, any time of year can be the perfect time and any reason can be the perfect excuse to indulge.

Crystal clear water, pristine beaches, balmy temperatures and a relaxing island feel: it is no wonder a trip to the Caribbean is the obvious choice for lovers around the globe. To take full advantage of all the romantic possibilities the Caribbean has to offer, a cruise vacation is the perfect choice. Cruises to the Caribbean are particularly affordable because of their closeness to the US coast. Many cruises, like the Celebrity Century, by Celebrity Cruises, originate off the Florida coast. This cruise costs well under 0 per person and combines the thrill of traveling to spots like Key West and Cozumel, Mexico, with the full-service experience of a cruise stay.

Get cozy onboard Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas with a seven-night cruise that covers San Juan, Oranjestad, Willemstad, Roseau and Charlotte Amalie. When not enjoying the sand and surf of these tropical resort stops, spend some couple time having fun with Royal Caribbean’s host of on-board attractions, like the skating rink, duty-free shopping galleria, rock climbing wall and numerous pools.

Couples can also focus their attention on one area of the Caribbean to maximize their pleasure. For the Bahamas, there’s the Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian Sky which tours Grand Bahama Island, Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay for a four-night cruise beginning at under 0 per person. From the exotic spa treatments at the Body Waves Spa to the Second City Comedy Show, this vacation will renew the senses and rekindle the fireworks. And for couples that can’t get enough of the Caribbean, there is always the 12-day Azamara cruise that begins in Miami and travels to St. John, Basseterre, Castries and onto Point A Pitre, St. Barthelemy and Virgin Gorda all while featuring a full-service spa, fitness center and casino on board the cruise liner.

Romantic getaways are not just reserved for the Caribbean Islands however. There are plenty of other cruise ship destinations that can offer couples the chance to spend time together living it up on palatial cruise liners and spending time together amidst some of the most gorgeous backdrops in the world. Another budget-friendly romantic cruise destination is Mexico and the Panama Canal region. How about a week-long stay aboard Holland America’s Oosterdam? This trip leaves from San Diego and moves through some of the most scenic spots in all of Mexico, like Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas all starting around 0 per person.

Or move from coast to coast with the Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Norwegian Pearl’s Panama trip. Launching out of Miami, this cruise makes its way through the canal and includes stops in Puerto Quetzal and Acapulco before landing in sunny Los Angeles.

Alaska is one more stop near the states that bears noting for couples looking to get away together. These cruises begin at around 0 per person for week long trips! The Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Millennium traverses the cool seas of this untamed wilderness area, beginning in Vancouver and traveling through the Inside Passage, Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, Hubbard Glacier and Seward.

Couples looking for their own personal Love Boat do not have to be confined to the shores around North America though. For a more exotic getaway, head for the South American shores or the islands of the South Pacific. Both areas offer unique cruise options that combine fun in the sun with cultural adventures. Norwegian Cruise Lines for example offers a 14-day trip through some of the most popular locales in South America, such as Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Puerto Madryn, Stanley, Ushuaia, Punta Arenas, Puerto Chacabuco, Puerto Montt and Santiago. Or spend 14-days touring the mystical isles of Asia with Costa Cruises cruise of Bali, Komodo, Singapore and other South Pacific retreats.

For a romantic couple’s getaway, a cruise trip offers the perfect love connection. Couples can enjoy the thrill of site-seeing at an array of ever changing locations and also spend intimate time on these opulent “floating resorts” indulging in numerous amenities guaranteed to excite and rejuvenate the senses. Few hotels can boast such a thrilling and romantic vacation.

Six Cruise Vacation Ideas You May Not Have Considered

Cruise vacations are revered the world over for being some of the most luxurious, fun filled and relaxation-centric vacations available. However, the notion that cruises are one size fits all excursions is simply not true. With more cruises than ever leaving ports around the world, your options are limited only by the amount of navigable water in the world.

Although a getaway to the Caribbean with its white sand beaches, warm ocean waters and perfect weather may sound ideal to some, it’s not for everyone. Before you cross the potential for cruising off your list of possible vacations, consider some of these more exotic, or at least less thought of, destinations.

The Nile

The world’s longest river and perhaps the most famous for the last 5000 years or so, the Nile offers adventure filled river cruises, providing a unique and quite historical vantage point for some of Egypt’s most ancient treasures. Nile cruises tend to follow the river’s northward flow, beginning at Aswan and the temples of Abu Simbel, and continuing on past some of the world’s largest and impressive dams.

Typical Nile cruises also feature a stop at Luxor and the Valley of Kings, where Tutankhamen’s tomb was discovered, before culminating at Cairo where you’ll be able to tour the great pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. This amazing cruise is a dream come true for anyone interested in the ancient world.

The Danube

For another historically packed river cruise, nothing beats a trip along the blue Danube in Central Europe. Cruises along the Danube rarely miss beautiful Vienna, the city of music that inspired Mozart, Beethoven and Strauss where you can find world class performances from each composer on a nearly daily basis today.

Other common destinations where river cruises dock include Slovakia’s capital of Bratislava, situated at the foot of the majestic Carpathian Mountains. Be sure to book a trip that ends at exotic and historic Budapest, Hungary for a glimpse at one of the oldest and most culturally important cities in Central Europe.

Alaska

If adventure is your cup of tea, you certainly won’t regret a cruise getaway to North American’s final frontier—Alaska. Alaskan cruise give you a close up view of the wilderness from the comfort and safety of your cabin or deck and offer a few unique chances to explore it all first hand.

Popular Alaskan cruise excursion include learning to mush a dog sled, taking helicopter and plane tours of active glaciers or even trekking across one on foot with a guided tour. And if it gets a little too chilly for your taste, you can always take a break in the ship’s sauna!

Australia

Adventure seekers and partiers alike will have a tough time passing up a trip to Australia. The home of the wallaby and koala offers incredible night life at the port of Sydney where you can catch a performance at their world famous opera house.

Later, cruises may head north, giving you a chance to experience amazing scuba diving along the teeming colorful barrier reef. Cruises also commonly offer excursions on Tasmania, giving you a personal view of some truly unique flora and fauna, and perhaps a stop at Wellington, New Zealand for good measure.

The South Pacific

Few places in the world have a reputation for being a veritable paradise like the islands of the south Pacific. Cruises to this land of sunshine and tropical beauty typically offer stops in gorgeous Fiji, French Polynesia’s Bora Bora and the legendary Tahiti. The perfect spot for a honeymoon or other romantic getaway, you can spend time relaxing on private palm lined beaches, take a dip in waterfall fed lagoons or get a look at the scenery beneath the waves with some world class snorkeling.

South America

Even though the Caribbean Sea just to the north is one of the most heavily cruised bodies of water in the world, few people think of exploring the exotic cultures and landscapes of South America by ship. Cruises to South America let you experience the bustling nightlife and packed beaches of Rio De Janeiro in Brazil or dance the tango and sip yerba mate in Argentina.

Other cruise itineraries often include trips through the busy Panama Canal and stops at Lima in Peru, Manta in Ecuador, and Valparaiso in Chile, also known as the Jewel of the Pacific, where indigenous and European cultures meld to create one of the world’s most exciting and unique cities.

Cruising is one of the fastest growing vacation industries in the world, and growing fleets mean you’ll have tons of destination options for your big getaway. Although the classic Caribbean cruise is an experience not to be missed, more exotic destinations are just the ticket for some travelers. Book your unorthodox cruise today and have the time of your life!
