South Pacific, The Broadway Musical

Many years on tour in Broadway is the wonderful musical, South Pacific.

The original production of the broadway musical, South Pacific, began in March of 1949 in New Haven, Ct. South Pacific tickets were sold for this production that ran from 1950-1955 as a US tour in 118 cities. A 1988 West End revival in London was held at the Prince of Wales Theatre from Jan. 1988 to Jan, 1989. Again, a new production of the show with slight revisions played at the Royal National Theatre in London for a short time from Dec. 2001 through April 2002.

In June, 2005 a concert version of the musical was presented live at the Carnegie Hall and starred Reba McEntire, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Alec Baldwin and Lilias White with a full supporting cast where South Pacific tickets were sold. This production was taped and televised in April 2006 and a DVD was released later.

A major new touring production of South Pacific opened in the UK at the Blackpool Grand Theatre in April 2007. This production is best known for staging of the overture which charted Nellie’s journey from Little Rock to the South Pacific. A map of the US is posted on entering the theatre.
